Which rail service do you use the most?

Which rail service do you use the most? Which do you find the most useful in day to day life?

For work I'm always on the Stoke-Piccadilly train run by Northern, dunno what I would do with put it sometimes haha! Its also the service I use when coming back from a wild night out (first train back)

Also for university the EMT/TPE service to Sheffield from Stockport, and then NR to Lincoln if I'm seeing my friend there!

Sometimes I can't imagine what it would be like to live in a place like Canada, USA or some other none rail country, I would much rather take the train rather than driving as its much faster and easier, even than dare I say it a ...142!

I still keep on seeing 323 in FNW livery, although there aint as many anymore!

Pretty much every working day, I use NXEA between Forest Gate and Liverpool Street and then the tube to KXSP.
Next most often is the Central Line from Leyton to either Liv St or Holborn and then a change to KXSP.
Occasionally, it'll be the GOBLin London Overground from Wanstead Park to Blackhorse Road and then the Victoria Line.
Also Jubilee from Stratford to Waterloo.

Pretty much every day I use NXEA ENL-TOM, and change for the Victoria line to somewhere, depending where I'm working.

I was (until I got a new bike) commuting Cambridge-Whittlesford Parkway (NXEA)- still use that if it's too icy/I'm being lazy.

Weekends, I often head to London. At the moment, usually Finsbury Park with FCC.

Long distance, I'm most likely (a few times a year) to go to Stirling- that can involve up to four different TOCs from a possible pool of six- FCC, NXEA, EMT, AXC (one or two of those to get to Peterborough- XC go direct, otherwise FCC or NXEA to Ely, and NXEA or EMT to Peterborough), EC (always) and FSR (unless on the Highland Chieftan).

First Capital Connect/East Coast mainly when commuting to and from work although sometimes I have had to use Cross Country/National Express East Anglia when there's disruption or I need to pass though Royston, Cambridge etc...

Other then that, I just use what's available when I'm out and about.

Virtually always on FGW services these days, journies beginning/ending in Trowbridge. Most regularly used services would be Paddington to Bristol and vice versa on HSTs. To get to them I usually end up on a 150/158, depending on whether I'm out for The Trans Wilts Express or a stopper. On other occasions, it's 159s on SWT Bristol to Waterloo services. Oh, and of course, occasionally I use the loco-hauled jobs to scoop a winner loco if one produces, commonly between Bristol and Filton.

Untill a couple of years ago Exmouth to Exeter for work, but since I've now moved into Exeter I walk everywhere now

During my work experience, I would get the 0711 High Wycombe to Princes Risborough, and then the bubble car to Aylesbury.

Nowadays, I only use the train for leisure, and I usually get an early saturday train to London or Birmingham, depending on where I'm going. Never once has the service let me down

I suspect delays and cancellations are more likely in the peak periods though, so I can't speak for the commuters.

SouthEastern usually Class 465 'Networkers' to and from Charing Cross on Orpington or Sevenoaks services with the occasional Class 376 'Electrostar' doing the service.

And Bromley North -to- Grove Park about a 5 minute journey on the whole line usually formed off a Class 466 'Networker'.

The 1627 Sheffield-St Pancras is a usual haunt for me, but you could potentially find me on any service between Sheffield and Chesterfield and vice versa as I commute there for work. The 0700 Hull-Kings Cross on a Monday was also a regular one for me last semester, as I had a 0900 lecture at university and it was the only way for me to get back in time without needing to get a taxi to Hull.

It was unusual for me to use trains to get to work, catching the earliest possible bus to the station meant I couldn't get to work in Southampton before 0800. I generally needed to be there by 0700 if not before. A dead car did occasionally force me to be late via public transport so it was SWT between Bournemouth and Southampton Central. Before the Voager Revolution I'd miss the SWT service and go with Virgin instead, much nicer with 47 hauled Mk2s. Since being made redundant it's been the occasional photting trip to Reading General, almost always with SWT changing to the FGW shuttle at Basingstoke. Very unusual for me to take a Voyager anywhere.

My most common route is actually Seaton Carew - Stockton on the 00:19 trains to Middlesbrough (Northern), but as often as not I use this service to the Metro Centre northbound too.

Every other weekend at the moment Lime Street - Euston with LM changing at Stafford. Lime Street to Chester, Manc and Sheffield are also regular haunts.

I've just checked my journey log spreadsheet (yes, I'm a sad stats person, mock me :P ) and I use two lines frequently.

Anytime I want to go north or to Manchester, the Mid-Cheshire line Northwich to Manchester Piccadilly.

Going south, it's usually the Liverpool to Birmingham line, from Winsford, Hartford or Crewe depending on circumstances.

Similar to jayjay, I also have a record of all journeys made, though (1) it only applies to this year, and (2) it's for the mileage compo. Obviously. So my main route is the far west of the GWML (Bath/Bristol), though other common routes include the southern end of the CrossCountry route (Bristol/Cheltenham), the rest of the GWML (Bath/London), and the South Wales Main Line (Bristol/Cardiff).

It depends how you define 24-hour. The longest gap between trains on Thameslink (St. Pancras to Bedford) is 90 minutes.

Do you prefer to travel to London by changing at Bath, than Westbury or direct into Waterloo?

Monday - Friday, it's the 0648 Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury/0727 New Street to Shrewsbury, and the 1648 Shrewsbury to New Street going the other way.

Weekends, I am regularly on various services between Bham/Leicester/Derby/Loughborough.

Traditionally, my most used routes are:

New Pudsey - Leeds
Leeds - Manchester
Leeds - Kings Cross

Due to circumstances, Leicester - St. Pancras is becoming my regular route, though I will have to try and avoid the frankly awful East Midlands HST's.

I have a choice for most of the day between Southern and LM; much prefer the former as they stop at Harrow & Wealdstone and Wembley, but working shifts means that this is not always possible.

I also use LOROL or the Bakerloo line but have no preference bewteen the two, tend to use the "Overground" service slightly more as it serves Watford Junction and Euston.

Going back years and years when I was at college, did lots of Branksome-Southampton Central on SWT's 442. Occasionally I would change at Bournemouth Central for a South Central (now Southern and before they were cut short to SOU) service especially if I was on a slam door train as I hated them. When I got a job a few years ago I commuted Reading-Basingstoke daily on the 0655 departure to Brighton (run by a SWT 159?) and changed for the 0724 Waterloo service, which used to be formed of three 450s, to Fleet (which i believe is now formed of two 444s). Missing that I do the 0708 FGW Reading-Basingstoke and 0740 Basingstoke-Waterloo (Fleet). Return would be via the reverse route and I frequently ran into the xx47 VXC departure from Basingstoke or sometimes the 1804 with SWT. If I fancied something a bit different I would go Fleet-SWT-Farnborough Main-Farnborough North-FGW-Reading that way. Now I don't use trains very much and the only one that stands out is EMT's HST on the Nottingham-St Pancra run as they tend to be services available for megatrain bookings.
