Exactly what is says really.I'm wondering what lines people are hoping to travel on, or cross off in 2013?

I've got a few on my list like

Settle & Carlisle
The remainder of the Valley Lines
Isle of Wight railways
West Highland Line
Most of the Overground

These are my priorities, but I'm hoping to travel to some extra new places in the process of completing these - so should have some interesting trip reports to post.

I need:
Middlesbrough-Whitby (NR)
Crainlarich-Oban (NR)
Surrey Quays-Queens Rd Peckham (NR)
Oldham Mumps-Shaw & Crompton (ML)
Turnham Green-Acton Town (LUL District)

... That's it! Apart from that it will be PSULs, the odd crossover and any railtours!

Surrey Quays - Queens Road Peckham (if I don't do it in 2012)
Hitchin flyover (due to open 2013)
Various Manchester Metrolink extensions

Any other track I need is confined to diversions, railtours and preserved line extensions.

I intend to do the following in 2013:

Snow hill line from Smethwick GB-Stratford upon avon/Dorridge
Cotswold line from Paddington-Hereford or at least Oxford to Gt Malvern
Borderlands line end to end (Wrexham Central-Bidston)
Whole of the Mersyerail Northern Line
West and East coastway
HS1
Bristol-Weymouth
Cambrian Coast line
Cumbrian Coast line
S&C (hoping to do this on a diverted Virgin service)
HoW line

So quite a bit to do but I will do them at one point

All The Cornish Branches.

Can be done on a Ride Cornwall ranger. £7.50 for a child £10 adult.
That ticket is valid from Plymouth Down and on the Gunnislake line

The Cornish branches are really good as well having completed them all in the Summer, I can safely say they are really good

I'm looking to make some inroads into Scotland, the South West and the North West this year - I'd also like to make more progress with Wales too. Now I have a more stable source of income, I can afford to look at taking a few days away to get further afield.

I've not decided in what order I'm going to complete the routes I need but fair to say there will be some interesting routes planned that mostly are photogenic :D

Haven't given 2013 too much thought yet but will go and do the new bit of the "Overground" soon then it will be off to Slovenia and Croatia to try and mop up as many bits of track as possible that we didn't manage in our recent visits.

We also have tentative plans for a vist to the Harz where a priority will be the line between Eisfelder Talmühle and Stiege and the loop at the latter which will clear the track on that system.

Don't really know tbh.

I'd like to do the rest of London Overground, make a sizeable dent in the WCML and try and get the ECML north of Darlington done! Also West of England Mainline between Axminster and Exeter is required. MML would be good as well!

I wonder how much of that I'll have done by this time next year!

Joe :)

Having conquered virtually all of the UK and Ireland rail networks (not including light/freight/heritage rail of course), my list is pretty much just PSUL stuff. Need to go through that with a fine tooth comb at some point in January and plan journeys, but there's only a few little bits on SET, one on EMT and one on Northern that I know of that need to be done.

Spreading my wings into mainland Europe somewhat is another goal for 2013, although where I have no idea.

Other than that, finishing the Metrolink system would be nice. As would finally getting up to Newcastle to spend the day doing the Tyne and Wear Metro system at last. Finally, getting at least one heritage line done would be nice too.

All relatively easy goals and a most basic mileage target of just 2,500 miles.

I need one curve till I have completed the Southern network (almost got it done a few weeks ago but the one train a day was cancelled within a few minutes of departure time :().

Need to focus on Southeastern, Anglia and probably North Wales and North West England and ideally the far outreaches of Scotland but being based in Southampton is far from ideal.

How do you decide if you have 'done' a line?

Does it matter if you haven't seen both sides of the route?

Does it matter if there is visibility is poor so, for example, you can't see the tops of mountains? Do you allow nighttime travel?

What if you fall asleep during some of the route?
