Which Desiro UK does you love the most?

Indeed, Desiro seats are akin to sitting on an ironing board bent in the middle.

Well the 450 ones are pretty rubbish for journeys above 30 minutes, which is where your experience comes from.

Nothing wrong with the 444 seats though. Maybe not as comfortable as the original 442 seats (the new ones are awful, they appear to have stolen them from a Class 150!), but at least you're guaranteed to get somewhere to put your legs.

I found the 444 seats just as hard, what happened to nice spongey/springey seats. Whats the current obsession with rock hard seating. My car doesn't have stupidly hard seats so why should I expect it on a train!!

Oh and those Grammar seats can be found on any FGW HST, and aren't that spectacular.

The seats on 444/185 and 350/1 are fine. Comfortable, easy to fall asleep in! and plenty of legroom. I agree though that the 350/2 and 450 seating isn't as good, but it does perfectly fine for the commuter type services for which they're intended.

On the side note, 458 standard seats are the most comfortable of any standard seat I am yet to find! Despite being 3+2, they are surprisingly comfortable.

I have to agree, and a unit with air con set to the correct temperate is simply bliss. Shame i've only ever travelled Wokingham - Reading on them!

They don't look tall enough to be the huge seats they fitted in SC that obscure anything but the tiniest slice of window? Could be just the photo though.

With regards to 458s, they're fine for Reading - Wokingham, but you don't want to do Reading - Clapham or something on one, as they start getting busy by Staines. It is also a very slow journey, although that's nothing to do with the 458s, as long as they don't fail.

317666, you wouldn't know what a decent seat is! The seats are crap.

Well, they're fit for purpose, and they're better than a lot of seats available nowadays - although the most comfortable train seat I have sat in is the original 317 seats - very nice!

Ive travelled on 185s, 350/1s, 360/2s and i work 444s and 450s and my favourite out of the lot for me is 450s but thats personal preference. To travel on 185s get my vote, never really have problems while working desiros as a guard might find the odd door sticky, the air con sometimes be playing up and its a shock to find both toilets on a 4 car in use but otherwise i like them and 444s.

No they are not i,m cursed with long legs and a bony backside so they are uncomfortable

185 and 360 Desiro's by virtue of their elegant non corridor fronts. Despite a lot of good efforts I guess the designers will never manage to update the frontal appearence of corridor fronted trains. Ugly.

I think that the corridor end Desiros look better than the non corridor counterparts personally because the squareness is hidden a bit better

It depends which we're talking about. I agree with you when it comes to the 360s - they look pretty ugly without the corridor connection, but the 185s are quite a successful design.

However i still prefere electrostars. The desiros are just louder and feel cheaper. The doors slam shut instead of close, like on an electrostar.

Desiros feel cheaper?? To me, electrostars feel cheaper. On Desiros they give such a smooth ride,when I went on my first 450, I couldnt believe we'd started moving. With 377s when another train comes past a speed the train rocks and it sounds like they have just hit each other. On 450s you can hardly tell

I disagree - the doors on Electrostars rattle unpleasantly when they pass a train coming the other way - the Desiros seem far more solid.

I must confess i prefer the re-assuring clunk of the doors closing. As for the seats, it has to be 350/1. The 2+2 seat with tables, loads of leg room are a definite winner for long distance commutes, ( which i do on a daily basis). The 350/2 3+2 seats are far firmer and as a consequence a lot less comfortable.

After seeing the comments from SWT Driver, if you get a fault appear on your TMS, it must be reported to your control. If you don't report, you can hardly whinge when the techies have not fixed. We can't fix it if we are not told its broken.

I hate the 185 front end design! The 360 looks much smarter!

To be honest I cant really tell apart which one i like better.

With certain desiros there is that cheap feel such as the 450s and with some Electrostars there is that cheap feel such as the 377/3

However no one in their right mind can say a 377/2 is bad they are simply awesome.

But i think the clear winner are the Desiros.

For me its the class 185s because i love the sound of they diesel engines where as the rest of them are electric and diesel is my first preference.

Because nobody has been on a 380 yet, and the 360/1s have been ruined inside by pax on the Essex lines.

360/2s are nice though, probably better than a 350/2 or 450/0.
