If im being really pedantic the title should be 'their' not 'there'. I went down to SPM for my Work Exp, bloody brilliant!

All of the transport companies in my area were full, so I had to settle for:
1 Week at a metalwork company as a clerical assistant & 1 week at a local primary school. Oh the joy!

Work Experiance...

Well...i was going to do mine with a freind of mine on London underground but that stalled...then i aimed at the Army's Royal Engineers...but for some stupid reason i was told by the 'work experiance cordinater = a rather b***y english teacher that if i choose to do that, it was classed as not proper work experiance and that i would be classed as truenting for 2 weeks...then she sarcasticly knew i was into railways and almost forced me to spend my 2 weeks with South West Trains - The last company id ever work for! So fortunatly, with a last ditch attempt i spent 3* weeks work experiance with my local VW Garage...Martins VW** here in basingstoke...so in the end i had 3 Weeks worth of servicing & helping out MOT cars...aswell asa day in the paintshop:roll:

* Although the work Experiance goes on for 2 weeks...being febuary half term next, i managed to have 3 weeks there...

** another love of my life, the early VW beetles & slpitty's...:D:D:D

So that pretty much kicked of my liking for engineering...

Oh andjust to point out...this was in 2006...

Fun Fun Fun Eh?...

I really wanted work experiance on the trains, but they all said no for health and safety reasons. I thought fair enough, until I saw how many other people got train placements previously, at the same time, and in the future! Am I more of a hazard than them or something!? lol

So I spent my weeks work experiance in a shop in Hastings which sells camping equipment. Not really what I wanted, but looks good on a CV at the end of the day!

Also doing some more work experiance away from school during the summer holidays up in London with a charity called Blind in Business. They're even paying the train fare!

I did my work experience 2 years ago now - I applied to all the local TOCs and FOCs in my area, and got either nothing or "no" in reply.

I ended up working in a warehouse for 2 weeks.

Blargh.

A crappy local newsagents. The boss was a pervert, talking about female customers behind their backs and how he would *do* them or not (including my teacher). His only other employee at the time was on drugs.

He wouldn't let me go for a lunch break one day so I walked out and never went back.

On a train...somewhere!
Went to Grand Central. (It pays to try). Most of the time me and GNERman were in the offices getting an overview of the company but we got out to London working on the train as buffet staff/conductor and the same when we went to Sunderland. It was great. We were going out on the 5Z01 driver trainer with the 180 but it was cancelled :(

Work Experiance and an apprentiship are very different. Little if any TOC's will offer work experiance, but pretty much all of them have apprentiship schemes.
