On the route between Bomo' and Waterloo can YOU a non railway employee stand within a few feet of the running rail with a train passing at 90mph on one side of you and at up to 100mph on the other side (no platform involved)?

And if you were daft enough - you could (legally but stupidly) be within 1ft or less of a train going past at 90mph! DON'T DO IT!

That foot crossing at Worting Junction (electrified lines) when standing on the concrete stairs between the two lines (Dad's photo - up line not visible on left). The one on the diesel lines is nowt special.

Yep - you got it. Parlour Gates - same name for the crossing on the Down Exeter (definately couldn't stand between the tracks here though).

The picture of the 'Fred' is taken from the top of the steps - line speed 100mph (nothing would be up to that speed by then though - except a Voyager perhaps leaving Basing on the down slow?)

At the top of the steps you are really close to the 90mph line. Now that Notwork Fail have closed the Farm Bridge to Photographers (never saw any trouble there myself), I expect this crossing will be used more often for photos.

If you do take photos here - take great care and a word of advice - any crossing really - when the driver blows the horn, put an arm up to let them know that you have seen them. Might also save you being reported for hanging around suspiciously.

There are lots of places where you can cross legally on a 125mph line. One heavily used foot crossing here needed you to cross three separate crossings, no warning lights, with refuges between them. Eventually somebody was killed so they put a massive bridge up.

She should have taken the kids over first - then taken the bikes over one by one.

There is a foot crossing at on the ECML at Ferryhill where I used to live where you had to cross both the up/down main and the up/down slow. Was quite a walk across but luckily it is a straight stretch so it can be done quite safely. Have heard of some people having a close call though because it is 110mph there.

Something like that - it was Carr Lane foot crossing south of Doncaster (not to be confused with Carr Lane LC on the Lincoln line). There is a similar crossing just south of that one which was very little used but because of a new cyclepath constructed nearby it has seen an upsurge in usage.

I know where you mean, although there is a cracking photo just up from there looking into Decoy Down yard.

Indeed, the new bridge makes photography difficult. An interesting opportunity might be available now with the new phone mast in West Bessacarr - it means a lane has been opened up parallel to the SYJR line to the point where the SYJR crosses the ECML, so you can get quite near to the ECML. I don't know if this is permanent though, it might just be for the duration of the works. There's also opportunities for some good photos on the relief line if you know where to go through the woods at the bottom of West Bessacarr which includes some old Dearne Valley embankments which are now part of the nature reserve - but you have to know where you're going because there are some very steep drops and marshes in places.
