I'd like to see it on the S+C as it's great for scenery and filming it over Ribblehead Viaduct would be great!

S&C would be good, starting at Kings Cross to York, then runround via Leeds, Aire Valley, S&C, retun via Tyne Valley, Newcastle bridges and ECML. Sounds awfully familiar to a tour we had planned, but 55022's engine issues forced us to cancel (twice!).

From a purely selfish point of view, a North East Coast tour! York to Scarborough then back to York, York to Whitby then back to Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough to Saltburn and then back round the coast via Middlesbrough & Hartlepool finishing in Newcastle.

London - Paris return (via the new rail link and channel tunnel).

Sorry, could'nt resist!

Nah, hows about northwards up the WCML climbing Shap and returning south via the Settle and Carlisle Line?

ECML for me - where they belong. A trip to 'The Cross' has been rather lacking. Although last year, it didn't stop me going to Penzance, Pwllheli, Cardiff, Whitby etc behind Deltics!

Aberystwyth. 22s been to Pwllheli, but not Aberystwyth. Saying that, Blaenau Ffestiniog would be bloody hellfire....

Starting at some London Termini, blast up the WCML, Crewe - Chester, then onto Holyhead. Run round then a blast to Blaenau. Return to Llan Junction, Run round and then a blast back home. Oh my <D

Sod that, I said a blast, the second pick-up is going to be Crewe, although he'll have to put the emergency brakes on on the approach to Crewe ;)

Only one place and that is where they were built for and where I travelled numerous miles behind them Kings Cross to Edinburgh with the possible extension to Aberdeen where they were occacionally seen. Added to which passing through (the now gone) centre roads at York non stop. Have travelled on them on other lines on railtours and service , but the ECML is their stamping ground.

Id say ECML like most have said - Its their home and what they were designed for, not routes with rollercoaster gradients, gave D22 some working on that penzance tour and we got a bit stuck on the gradient on the return

I'd like to see it on a mammoth 3-day super-tour. Start at London Kings Cross for an uber-fast charge up to Edinburgh. None of this poncy stopping at Stevenage, Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed, this tour is about covering maximum distance in the 3 days. We'd then pick up and have a 30 minute leg-stretching break before continuing to storm up through Aberdeen for a social call in Inverness for the night.

On Day 2, the only sensible place to take 55022 then would be Thurso and Wick before heading straight back down through Perth and into Glasgow for the night.

Day 3, and it's time once again to cover some more unusual track. Out of Glasgow nice and early for a storm down the Glasgow and Sou' Western to Carlisle before passing through and onto Crewe, where we'd have a leg stretching break before continuing down the Marches to Maindee North Junction before heading east and storming off to Acton and around into London Kings Cross.

Would have to cost a lot mind, but it would be mental.

On a day tour, it would again be out of Kings Cross and up to Cleethorpes for a few hours (catering for daytrippers mainly) before returning via Market Rasen to Lincoln and Newark for another fast run back to London.

Why not have it venture to Folkstone Harbour?

I expect a Deltic would probably have clearence issues at Folkestone Harbour. 37s do.

Think its too heavy for the line not sure:?:

66s sometimes venture down to Folkestone Harbour which are heaver than Deltics.

Oh are they but I don't think they can get round part of the station like the 37. I cant wait to see a 66 down there 8-)

I'd also like to see it come down my way from Hereford to Worcester and onwards to somewhere else. Don't ask where, can't be arsed to do that now!

And they weren't designed to go up places like Shap and Beattock with heavy loads on one engine either, as discovered on the Deltic Retro Scot, even though it wasn't intentional to do such a thing! I think if it was a Deltic that had just the one engine in it and the whole loco was lighter (i.e. no kaput 2nd engine), it might've fared a bit better, although in either case you need to be doing a good speed when you pass Tebay.

To be fair though, the engines were originally designed for marine use, and EE saw their potential for use on the railways
