In a previous thread, it was mentioned that 3417 gets stored wherever space can be found... Clapham shed, etc. In another previous thread, it was said that the bay platform at Bournemouth isn't used as most trains are too long. I was thinking about this and wondered... why not store 3417 in the bay platform at Bournemouth? It's mostly covered, there are no regular workings to that platform and if it did need to be moved out of the way, it could be moved to the siding (very temporarily), platform 4 (again temporarily) or Bournemouth depot.

The unit would quickly be vandalised or even set on fire if left somewhere so publicly accessible.

At least where it is in Clapham / Wimbledon Wombledon / Bournemouth sheds, it's kept undercover which is the most important thing for the VEP (Water ingress has occured in one of the coaches already). The group that now ownes and maintains 3417 is also largely centred around Wimbledon depot anyway, hence why it still has access there.

To echo the statements made by Matt and fgwrich, I'd like to add that it is not a ideal location if the group responsible for her preservation want to do any work below the solebar, the other problem being is that the bay is accessible to the general public and thus makes the unit a potential target to metal theives and vandals. Clapham Yard is far more secure, and she has been there for quite some time now. So for the time being it looks like she may be staying put.
