1 tph each way (with a few more at peak times). Which makes it of limited use for trips into Warrington but OK for Liverpool and Manchester.

When ticket office is open (0700-1400) it has a ticket hall which has heating (of a sort) and seats. When closed there is no seating and no shelter on the Liverpool platform and some seating and shelter on the Manchester platform.

Stevenage on the lovely ECML, we get lovely trains such as 91, 180 (very occasionaly), 313, 317, 365 and the superb HST.

Rough southbound weekday services are 4tph to Kings Cross, 2 which call at Finsbury Park only, 1tph to Moorgate via Hertford North, usually 2tph to Kings Cross non-stop.

Northbound normally 2tph to Cambridge, 2tph Peterborough, 1tph to Letchworth, 1tph to Leeds and 1tph to Newark with some continuing to York every 2 hours

We have just moved nearer Ashurst New Forest....it's 300 yards away now! Generally 1tph but in the peaks 2tph. Last train during the week is 23.47 to Eastleigh or on Sundays to Southampton. First Up train used to be about 06.20 which is popular M-F, but a fat lot of use if you have to go further afield than London, so a drive to Brockenhurst is required, for which you have to pay to use the Car Park, or perhaps take the plunge and drive along the M27 to Southampton Airport Parkway. Notable point: Eastleigh is spelled 'Eastliegh' on the Down platform end board. The old Station Master's house is occupied by a painter and decorator who is the son of the last S/M!

Yes, nice little station at Ashurst. Used to frequent the Happy Cheese pub just up the way - used to be excellent and there was a pop quiz on a Sunday night.

On a walk last night to ANF I noticed that 'Eastliegh' is quoted on the boards on both Up and Down platforms! We still on the sign on the footpath to the Down (P2) 'British Rail and Hampshire County Council 'in partnership'!

Hawarden in North Wales (not to be confused with Hawarden Bridge which is 2 stops down the line toward Bidston). On the Borderlands Line between Wrexham and Bidston (Change there for Merseyrail to Liverpool). 1 train an hour each way with a change at Shotton for North Wales Line to Holyhead, Chester and London. Not much of a station really although free parking, close to Village centre - a couple of shelters, no toilets and nowhere to purchase a ticket - usually do that on the train. To be honest it's handy for trips into Liverpool but for anything further afield I tend to cycle to Shotton or Chester as the connections etc are more convenient.

There is a certain amount of freight traffic through the station to and from South Wales for the Steelworks at Shotton (now Tata Steel). Many stations on the line are unmanned and it still retains a certain charm with a long climb out of the Dee Valley providing nice vistas over the River Dee towards the Wirral. There are also nice views as the train crosses the Dee Marshes as this area is little visited due to lack of roads. For cyclists a nice trip is to take the train to Bidston and then take the train to West Kirby and enjoy a nice lunch next to the Estuary before cycling down the Wirral Way which is basically the old Hooton to West Kirby Line. This was shut under Beeching in the sixties and now provides a lovely flat cycle route to Hooton with lots of nice views of the Welsh Hills and chance for refreshment. I usually return to Hawarden by catching the train at Neston to avoid the long climb uphill by bike from the Dee basin!

Belfast Central Station would be my closest. In fact, it's 4 minutes walk from my front door to the ticket office so quite handy. It's a pity the NIR network is so limited as an off peak return is pretty cheap really. Great car-free way for me to get to Hilden beer festival.

The view from my window is the bridge crossing the Lagan and into the station so I see pretty much all types of stock operating on the NIR network at present plus the odd steamer operated by RPSI.

Seaham is my nearest Station, about 2 miles away, on the Durham Coast Line, not much happens there though, 1TPH in each Direction, Newcastle to the North, Middlesbrough to the South, even less on a PM and Sundays.

There is no ticket office, a 'bus' shelter on each platform and a signal box close by

Well, the station nearest to me is the Farnworth station (Bolton) I've only been there once. Not much people there when I went.

The station I go to most is the Bolton station in town. A very nice station I think.

I have two local stations, Garforth And Castleford.
Garforth is a lovley, well looked after station, which is manned at times. Castleford However is basicly a dump, and in a very,very bad state.

I used to live there back in 1994. Sounds like you might live in the old railway houses which were derelict when I lived in Ashurst.
I am now a field away from the ECML . Tollerton station closed long ago so it;s a choice of Cattal or Hammerton (7 miles) for Leeds and Manchester (plus free parking)
or Thirsk (13miles) or York (11 miles) for London services.

Mine is East Kilbride . A single platform halt with 156s every half hour . Waiting room is cold and bare plus it is staffed. It seems in East Kilbride most people drive to its 2 stations.

When I'm away at college, it's either Blackpool North or Layton, both are about a mile away. I always use Blackpool North, as only 1 service an hour stops at Layton off peak.

Back home, Newcastle and Manors are both similar distances away, but I always use Newcastle.

Not been through East Kilbride on the train but used to pass through on the coach en route to the Highlands.

I live 10 minutes walk away from both Treherbert and Ynyswen stations,the top two stations on the Rhondda Valley line.Ynyswen was opened in 1986.When it first came into operation Ynyswen was known to Treherbert train crew as Lawthom's halt as it was located in exactly the same position as a previous hole in the fence where we used to drop one of our drivers off when he was travelling home on the cushions.

Strictly speaking our local station is North Sheen but I generally use Richmond as it has a better service and feels a lot safer after dark. Although the platform canopies have been recently altered its still a decent looking station.

Just down the road from me then. I think actually that Poole is marginally closer than Branksome but I much prefer Branksome! If I was travelling west then I would probably go from Poole.

As a kid my closest station was Porth,about one and a half miles away.However,I lived about 100 yards away from the Rhondda Fach line to Maerdy which was freight only.Passenger trains ceased in the 60s.A train of empties used to go up the valley at about 3am.You could hear the 37 from about a mile away in the quiet of the night.

My local station is Hornsey which is a 10 minute walk from my home it is a basic station which is served by class 313 however the fast lines are more interesting as you see class 317, class 321 , class 365, class 180 class 91 HST's and even some freight at times.

We've just moved. Nearest station is Gateshead Stadium on the Tyne & Wear Metro, The Newcastle - Sunderland line runs alongside so in addition to the Metro we see an hourly Northern service to Sunderland & Middlesbrough/Saltburn/Nunthorpe utilising class 142's and 156's, Grand Central Heaton - Sunderland ECS workings of HST's and 180's and freight trains including DBS 60's on the Jarrow Tanks, GBRF 66's on coal trains and the odd DRS Nuclear Flask (which I'm yet to see). I can also see the line from our kitchen window, but theres flats under construction which will obstruct the view. I can also see Byker Bridge over the river in the distance and can just about glimpse the ECML behind the Metro bridge from our bedroom window
