Sometimes bus stops are more conveniently located for the local population than the local station. If there are no trains serving the station, and road access to it is difficult, it may be more convenient both for the operator and the local population for the RRBs to stop in the town centre rather than outside the station.
The rail replacement bus stop in Marsden appears to be neither in the vicinity of the railway station, or the town centre itself. It looks to be on the main 'A' road that passes by to the South of Marsden.
Less confusing to passengers than when, as was the case for many years, the bus drivers would decide for themselves, regardless of any instructions they may or may not have been given, whether or not to go up to the station. Often this left would-be passengers waiting at the station wondering why their bus hadn't turned up.
It was March last year. Some cars parked in unhelpful places made it difficult for coaches to get through. Occasionally the service buses have had the same issue. In 2025 all the closures were Stalybridge to Huddersfield, so every replacement bus stayed on Manchester Road. This year, including for the next three weeks, there have been some trains starting/terminating at Marsden so there's a need for some buses to go to the station to connect with the trains.
