Where do you work?

I am interested in what people from across the bus industry think of their place of employment, the company they work for, pay, quality of vehicles, treatment & respect from passengers and generally how your well being is within your job as a Bus/Coach Driver.

It seems that many do their job for a wage, obviously, but is that really enough to sustain workers and therefore the industry long term?

I think responses to this may be a bit limited. I don't work in the bus industry, but I do have a policy of never discussing my employer on a public forum, and suspect I'm unlikely to be in the minority.

I did 20 years with United, Northumbria and Arriva in the North East. Did bits and bobs with local companies, would not return now with current wages and conditions.

As for well being, I left when I was spat at 3 times in a year and my manager told me it was " part of the job" and I was still expected to carry those that spat on me.

What sort of company operates like that?

Since you asked, what about you op?

I’m up in Scotland and have worked for most major operators here. I'm currently working for an agency driving buses, purely for the heightened wage of doing so if I’ve to do the same diabolical shift lengths & work within the industry's negative culture.

I’d prefer that the major bus groups weren’t my employer anyways.

Over the past 12 years I have had verbal abuse/eggs thrown at me & even simply someone say to my face “You're just a bus driver”. Naturally it was what I’d call a waster that said this to me, the level of respect I feel the whole industry is poor from many different aspects.

I worked with only 1 company I found reasonable in its approach but even then the travelling distance to commute for me was too much.
