Where can I get these route diagrams?

The attached line diagram is embedded into the Wikipedia article, and every train line seems to have such a diagram in its Wiki entry.

Does anyone know if such diagrams have a name, and who produces them?

I would like to be able to see them all in one place rather than have to search every railway line in Wikipedia.

A quick search of Wikipedia has thrown up the following : (see attachments below).


So I think they are something drawn up by the person(s) creating the page on Wikipedia.

From memory, there is a sort-of diagram builder function. You have a set of line and station symbols you can use, but you have to do the legwork so you'd have to hand draw in advance what it is you're trying to achieve. A bit like ASCII art, if you know what that is!

The maps do not exist as single gifs, but are generated by displaying loads of gifs next to each other. I believe a complete list of the components can be found at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/BSicon/Catalogue

From memory, there is a sort-of diagram builder function. You have a set of line and station symbols you can use, but you have to do the legwork so you'd have to hand draw in advance what it is you're trying to achieve. A bit like ASCII art, if you know what that is!

Apropos of nothing, that is also how the Railcam (and Freightmaster!) signalling diagrams are drawn;
there are hundreds of 15x15 gif 'tiles' which can be put together to create any track/station layout imaginable...
