Where can I ACTUALLY catch an SWR 701?

I’ve been tryi to catch one of SWR’s 701s but haven’t been able to. I normally rely on a post from elsewhere on the forum for predicted workings but with no success so far — I eith don’t see a single 701 or I only see one as my non-701 train is pulling out of the station. Any tips?

Just look for 10-coach workings out of Waterloo on Realtimetrains, and ignore anything going to Weymouth or Portsmouth.

There are still a couple of 458/5’s running around, so ten coach isn’t 100% guaranteed as a 701.

That said, if you’re out spotting, I’d imagine Clapham Junction is your best bet if you just want to see one. Both Windsor and South Western lines come together there plus you’ll get any ECS coming from Clapham sidings or Wimbledon Depot.

Additionally, (but probably less effective) you could search for specific 701 units in the “quick search” area on RealTime Trains.

Shepperton services are a good bet usually-Shepperton is about 50% 701

Weekdays (aside from this week due to Ascot) are pretty consistent with more 701s being gradually introduced. Weekends are a lot more variable. As others mention 10-car metro workings will usually be a 701 with a single pair of 485/5s to avoid.
