Where are all the jobs?

Having passed pts for working on the railways in April I am still trying to find work as a labourer ,However evry place i phone up or apply to keeps telling me to apply later on in the year.So far as you can imagine I have still got zilch work. Kinda frustrating as whilst I was doing my training I got told that there is plenty of work available.Does anyone know where on earth I can find work? Thanx all

Forgot to mention I will happily do p/t so long as it aint work a weekend and be off for 3

The PTS course should only be a maximum of a 2 day course so what other training did you do over the 10 weeks? If you want to be a track worker mostof the hours will be unsociable, weekends, nights weekends so your additional comment of not weekends and finising by 3pm you have no chance

10 weeks training ! What a waste of time and money !!!!!!!!!

Are you saying you did the course privately? I was under the impression this was not possible as you need a sponsor...which 9 times out of 10 is your employer who also should be paying for the course themselves.

Companies like Trackwork run 10 week courses on track maintenance, combined with a PTS qualification at the end on behalf of Pway companies such as Carillion, McGinley etc.

I should know because I too have just finished that course and had no luck finding a job!

I believe he meant that he'd be willing to work part time as long is it isn't just one weekend on, three weekends off , thus being unemployed much more than being employed.

That said, the job market in many industries has slowed right down with companies wanting to get rid of staff rather than employ more to ensure they remain financially viable in the long run and can outlast the bad economic climate.

The best anyone can do is either wait until the market picks up a bit and then get a job a bit easier or keep trying now, faced with the fact it's very unlikely you'll get anywhere. Then again, you're not the only one in such a position - many people have been made redundant this year and there are also plenty of new jobseekers about.

I, for one, am certainly not looking forward to graduating into the unknown next year and am already looking for schemes I can get onto to maximise my employability once things have settled down economy wise.
