When the call bleeper won't stop bleeping.

A genuine question because I don't know the answer, I'm thinking of Voyagers and Meridians particularly, what is the reason why a call bleeper just won't stop?

I travelled from Leicester to Derby this evening on an EMR 222 and the bleeper was sounding when I got on and was still going when I got off, it never stopped.

Does it need to be reset somewhere or can it be turned off? Obviously the TM must know about it, would an apology over the PA be in order if it was defective?
It did get a bit irritating after so long, I'm glad I was only on the train for half an hour!

What sort of a bleep was it? Different tones or same tone? Were you in a particular carriage?

I know on some types of unit if it can't be reset due to a fault, it requires a full reset of the unit. This would be done at a location advised by control, quite likely at the end of the journey. Were any other manual PA announcements made? It's just when the call for aid is stuck it's likely the PA cannot be used as the defective call for aid will be connected to the PA microphone.

It would depend on which specific alert was going off. Either a call that's gone unanswered and the handset not (properly?) replaced, or a train fault which the train manager hadn't acknowledged - or that they had acknowledged but it kept coming back. The technically similar voyagers were modded, some time back now, (the mod did not last long for reasons which shall become apparent) to trigger a TM L3 alert (doop-doop tones through the train) if a toilet went out of use - if you had an air leak the air would drop too low, taking the toilet out of service and generating the alert, which would be acknowledged. Now out of use, the toilet would build its air back up again and come back into use clearing the fault, then lose its air via the leak, and generate another L3 so the cycle repeats. A similar fault-cleared-repeat fault-cleared-repeat fault etc cycle could be a possible cause.

I understand there are different tones for different purposes but I think (I may be wrong) it was the tone used to call a member of train crew to another part of the train. It was two tone, low-high, repeated four times and sounded about every minute or so.

There were the usual announcements being made over the PA during the journey.

Another possibility is the call for aid button in the loos which often gets accidentally activated. This sounds similar to the crew call and (AIUI) will keep repeating until it is reset with a T key.

Accidental activation of the call button in the disabled toilets seems to be very common on LNER's 225s. A trip to Leeds or Edinburgh would simply not be complete to me without "BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Attention train crew! Disabled passenger alarm activated!" repeating itself for a good solid ten minutes at some part of the journey.

That said, I've also heard it once on an Azuma, but never on a TfW MK4 service, so maybe it's not so much the MK4s being sensitive but maybe some locals to the ECML just like setting it off?

Sounds like a recurring Level 3 alarm. Most probably a vehicle computer fault.

On my last Voyager trip (XC if that helps matters), every so often a tone would ring through the train - three "bleeping" tones at increasing pitch, repeated each time. Does anyone know what this would be? My guess would be crew-call or similar (given there was disruption that day), but I'm not sure.

Same thing happens on Avanti Voyagers, crew call since there is a buffet in both sets open and the train manager has to move from one to the other.

Often crew calls on double Voyager sets seem to be preceded by a PA announcement saying "[crew member], please answer the next crew call"
