Once saw a 153 sitting at Crewe with Par on display!

Afon Wen remained on Chester blinds for years after closure - remember seeing one sat in the old 1A platform at Crewe.

Once saw a Voyager claiming to be en route to various Polish destinations!

I was on a service bound for Turbostar Class 170 today!

But in terms of changing the blinds, unless the train is on a dedicated shuttle - in which case I don't mind just setting the blinds and leaving them all day - then I'd go for the OP's solution of changing them as soon as it is practical after arrival at the terminus.

I normally do them after I've left the last station on the trains journey. However this is not always easy as a lot of our blinds have completely broken and just display as blank. This is due to the new 'easy winding' installations on the refurbs of our 153s and 156s which fell to bits pretty much as soon as they were put in.

Indeed. And I never saw anyone do this during my time as a manager on the SSL otherwise you could well have received the punishment you deserved for causing concern and upset to passengers less capable that yourself.

It wasn't, so I should have introduced the acronym. DDA=disability discrimination act, or more specifically the rail vehicle access regulations, which cover such things as side destinations (which will surely be electronic, and integrated with front and internal displays).

Yeah when ever i go spotting to Lincoln, i get the service from Doncaster and its already set to Lincoln, but that will almost certainly have been changed at Gainsborough Lea Road. Most of the EMT services into Lincoln are already set to there next service on arrival. I have noticed there are so many different blinds on the EMT units, theres two units kicking around with black and white blinds think its 153381, 153385 and 156414. Then the rest either have Black and yellow ex CT blinds or blue and white EMT blinds, but now EMT have some more new blinds blue and white which are fitted to 153311 No2 End and 156413 the lettering is bigger and wider and easier to see.

I would say the blind could be set at the last station before the terminating one, depending on how far you have to wind from one destination to another. If the EMT easy winding system is anything to go by its harder to change the destinations that what it was before.

Correct, and when I drove buses the running board stayed on the bus, but you are talking about trains and the "schedule cards" stay with the traincrew and not the train! Shimples!

The last train of the evening from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno forms a Llandudno to Crewe service. I boarded the Llandudno-bound train at Deganwy and the blinds had already been set to Crewe!

I was also on a 175 the other day at Chester. The LED display at one end of the coach was saying the usual "We are now at Chester. This train is for Llandudno. The next stop is Shotton." The one at the other end of the coach was saying "Welcome aboard, we will be calling at the following principal stations" and listing the stations from Llandudno to Manchester Piccadilly...
