Just noticed this on the East Coast website. Apparently if a train due in before midnight is actually expected after midnight then it counts as really early. Bear in mind that there are 1440 minutes in a day:

Couldn't get the image to display but the 23:58 was coming in at 00:10 and was consequently 1428 minutes early.

Lazy programming.

I'm surprised at that. I thought these sorts of things got "reset" at around 0400 (like travelcards/weekly passes etc). But yeah, that is pretty lazy programming, given that most "Get Time" type functions tend to come with "Get Date" type functions.

It's not unique to the East Coast website. The live departure/arrival boards on NRE do exactly the same thing. The same thing happens with a train booked to arrive just after midnight but expected a few minutes early just before midnight. Rather than showing 4 minutes early it says it's 1436 minutes early.

East Coast's website proclaims a train is "Delayed" when it is early.

For example, it is currently showing the 17:42 arrival from Welwyn Garden City at KGX as
EastCoast said:
Delayed
This service is running early by 2 minutes and is expected to arrive at 17:40
