When do Merseytravel send out new ENCTS Passes before expiry? My pass is due to run out in April and I wonder how far in advance they send out the new one? It's already been awarded on a permanent basis.

Also, is there any mechanism for updating the photo? The one they have on file is quite old.

Thank you.

Renew your pass

Age related passes are issued on a permanent basis. Please ensure you keep us informed if you change your address as we will contact you four weeks before your pass is due to expire and tell you how you can renew your pass. You can renew your pass by email, which is the quickest method, by phone, at a Merseytravel Centre or by post.

Disabled Persons Travel Passes are issued on both a temporary and permanent basis. If your pass has been issued on a temporary basis and you still require the concession you will need to submit a new application form and supporting evidence at least four weeks prior to your pass expiring. The quickest way to do this is to apply online here.

If your Disabled Persons Travel Pass has been issued on a permanent basis we will contact you with details of how to renew this, either by email, which is the quickest option, by phone at a Merseytravel Centre or by post.

Please be aware that postal applications or renewals could take between four to six weeks to process, the quickest method to renew your pass is by email. To re-apply for your concessionary travel pass click here.

So it looks like I have to wait for them to contact me 4 weeks before the current one runs out. They do not have my email address yet, just my postal address so I shall look out for a letter from them.

I wonder what the "renewal" process involves.

Probably just responding to say you are still alive, as without this they would be sending passes out to people who had passed away, which is both upsetting and a waste of resources.

My colleague who looks after Concessionary passes get a monthly (I think) list of deaths from our Registration team for exactly the reasons mentioned.

I didn't know this (had never thought about it tbh) until a number of years ago I went to said colleague's desk to ask an ENCTS question and by a weird coincidence of timing saw a photo of my recently departed grandmother on screen as her record was amended.

As in the case of my parents, the Tell Us Once service should take care of concession passes, along with other documents such as Blue Badges and passports.

I believe the procedure in England is that you can ask to change the photo: best time to ask is just before your new pass is due to be sent out, then it will cost nothing. If you want to change the photo on an existing pass, it'll cost £10, because a replacement pass will have to be issued. Details of what you need to provide will be on each issuing authority's website. The photo on my pass shows me age 60, and I'm coming up 74!
