Apologies if this in the wrong section, or already been discussed, and before I get flamed, I'm not in the industry, just have a casual interest in UK railways.
With Sundays crash being reported as poor adhesion being a big/main contributing factor, and other posts reporting trains suffering slides (such as one on the Beford to Bletchly line) I wondered if this was something new and having light weight multiple units for fast acceleration that we have these days was a key factor? I'm old enough to remember the classis "leaves on the line" headlines back in the day, but can also remember my parents who grew up through the steam era suggesting it was a modern thing as it never happened in their day with heavy steam engines.
I've tried to find out when RHTT first ran, which I presume was after the 80's leaves on the line incident? But wondered if this issue is a modern day issue or if its plagued the industry for at least the past century ?
