Certainly didn't pay the £100 price Hornby are now asking for new ones & got a discount (sub £75). Perfect for my tiny layouts I love building.

Now that looks very nice. The tiny 48s are just perfect for small layouts, and to get all you need to run an engine into such a small model is really clever on Hornby's part. Very nice indeed. There's something about the 33s I quite like - I'm not sure what it is though. I must say, the Dutch livery wasn't my favourite before but it's growing on me...

They have some advantages- they are usually cheaper and great for the space conscious. They also some of the most common types of loco’s, so most people can find an excuse for them on their layouts.

I think you should try one, for working a suitably diminutive train
The match wagon can be removed. There's a plastic connecting bar that slots into the coupling slots on the loco/wagon. Same with the electrical connection. I have no problem with the wagon as even combined it's shorter than a Bachmann 03/Hornby 08!!

I'm in the same boat, keep acquiring stock but so far nowhere to run them. In fact I'd forbidden myself from buying anything until I've at least begun construction on a layout!

The APT-E in fictional livery was going fairly cheap at a few suppliers the other week, so if you want one, those are the ones to get and not off Ebay unless you are desperate. I think the Swallow HST DVT is a good value purchase at £84, there's nothing to stop you having an older/cheaper/less-detailed powercar on the opposite end...

You're not the only person to mention the shape of the front end, personally it looks absolutely fine from where I'm looking, certainly beats those kitbashed ones which used the old Lima tooling.
Yeah I will agree it is definitely expensive, but you musn't forget that this has DCC onboard, so essentially the price covers for the decoder inside of which (which I have no clue what it is) Personally I've been waiting for an RTR DBSO model for years now, the kit versions are just too much of a task for me as it's not my thing
I can see that the new Cally Sleeper Liveried MK2E BUOs are out, it's on my wishlist atm, gotta be honest and say from the pics I've seen of it the green still is not dark enough but it's nowhere near as bad as an attempt on their 92s where the blue was completely incorrect shade.
It isn't easy to stick to... I recently came into a bit of extra cash so decided to pre-order an Accurascale 31 with sound... the fact that it won't arrive for a while at least means I won't feel guilty about the purchase by the time it gets here!
Almost as bad as the rare OO gauge inspection saloons in any livery!
Try getting the Merchant Navy 'Royal Mail', or London Underground class 20 or S Stock!
Don't get me started on the S Stocks, the prices for them on Ebay are truly absurd

I do plan to pick up 9497 at some point soon as it's a vehicle I might have had a small hand in producing (Hornby were originally due to produce a BUO by printing the guards van stuff on the side of a Mk2 TSO until I spoke to a few contacts and to Mr K and pointed him in the direction of this one). Ok, so it's not your prototypical BUO for your Euston services, than the BSO for the Fort William service, but at least it's a factually correct and faithful reproduction of a Caledonian Sleeper Mk2 than the originally proposed hotchpotch.
