Definitely a great locomotive, really good value for money at the time too. The detailing and running quality is top notch, as you say.

Picked up a Dapol Class 220 in Virgin Trains livery for £94 today. Noisy runner, but weathered and the glue marks Hattons described are barely visible on the photographs. Should be a nice relaxing afternoon one day taking a look at the motors.

Went in to Kernow to collect 2 wagons I'd ordered + a pack of street lamps.

Popped into Jane's Trains in Tooting yesterday as I've never been there before and was in the area, walked out with two RES coaches and a Gaugemaster FGW Class 153. Very friendly people, busy little shop, great selection of stock - an absolute gem.

That is fantastic, wish I had your patience. Is the backscene a DIY computer/photo thing or something that can be purchased? That is a very real reminder (to myself....) that often 'less is more' as the saying goes. I think may be I should concentrate on just one theme of my many interests, and just 'display' other parts of my collection.

Thanks, although I don’t really have much patience It’s a Gaugemaster backscene- they have a really good range and the photographic ones I think look very realistic.

I am surprised, as it looks extremely good, and much less effort for a very very good result!

I can report that I may have gone bidding on eBay and may have four (2000ish vintage) Hornby BR (SR) Mk1s on the way... (they will need weathering, roofs toning down, one renumbering etc, but that's part of it, isn't it? Never know - I might get round to doing them at some point )

There really is a dearth of contemporary 1:148 scale buses around (unless you want New Routemasters), so I've purchased a few Base Toys Leyland Atlanteans in Maidstone & District livery. About 20 years out of date for my British layout, but some custom decals should make them feel authentic so long as you don't pay too much attention.

On my side, a nice eBay punt was waiting for me when I got back from holiday - a Lima 73. This looks prime for weathering and lighting etc - though with the Southern habit of having two red blinds on the rear makes it a little tricky to get the directional nature working....

Yeah - it's getting on a bit, but I think with some weathering it'll look great - I have plans that at some point it might be dragging a filthy set of PMV/CCTs/other assorted vans about as a parcels working. Even maybe pulling a rake of green Mk 1s (I have 4 currently) about would look reasonable.

I need to have a dig re lighting - there might be something out there to make it work (possibly with blank blinds, and a red and white led?), but it might become a bit of a compromise and making it look good from one direction might be a long term aim - there might be just too many options to expect a simple decoder to cope with, even with having manual function keys to deal with them...

An old Lima (right royal) class 47 which is now DCC TSX sound equipped (though a 31 will have to suffice until Hornby pull there finger out). New etches and flush glazing and a start made on the buffer detail, coupling added. Runs superbly now it's serviced within an inch of its life.

The motor mounting crumbles to nothing over time (my dad's one did the same) - you can replace it with a new mount from Peter's Spares (hopefully they will have it in stock).

Already had the rot! Mount has been removed and the motor secured to the chassis. Bit grindy at slow speeds, but is fine once it get going.
