Went back to the Locoshed in Whitefield (Greater Manchester) and grabbed some more Virgin coaches, a Mk2F TFO and another Mk3 TSO (have two of them now); hopefully you'll see the full rake pulled by my trusty Class 47.

Those look very nice. For some reason, I'm particularly drawn to that red: looks very vibrant (in a good way!).

The cheap Amazon Ruston 48DS in GrantRail colours tempted me in & I purchased one!

I used to have one back in early 2021 but sold for markup. So I replaced it

That all-over yellow is a lot less garish than I thought it might be actually - I rather like it! Speaking from experience, those little engines are brilliant models, especially when you consider they're so tiny!

A couple of new acquisitions from me:

Firstly, a factory weathered blue/grey BG as they seemed quite common in coaching formations North of the Central Belt.



And secondly, I picked up a DCC Sound Rails/Bachmann Class 812 Caledonian Locomotive. Now, some of you may be thinking 'but, why didn't you get the Hornby J36 as it would be more appropriate/prototypical ?' And, you would of course be right. But, while the livery on the J36 looks excellent, it isn't available factory weathered (to my knowledge) so I would have to pay for that additionally, the sound is TTS which isn't at the quality level that I'd like, it doesn't have firebox glow like the 812 and the most important advantage for the 812 on a layout with many points, is that it has additional pick-ups in the tender so never cuts out which the J36 theoretically may do. The 812 is a lovely model. I'm just going to go over the coal in the tender with black weathering powder to dull it down and fit some cab crew. I might also add more weathering to the buffers to make them look worn as that's an easy win.

Anyone passing through Keighley gets to see the pair of 16 tonne mineral wagons standing next to the KWVR turntable:



So here they are in OO gauge:



I used to see rakes of these MCV/MCO wagons on a daily basis when I was young, along with HTVs and HTOs, behind filthy Gateshead and Thornaby 37s. HEAs were also used, behind pairs of 37s until the 56s took over.

Latest N gauge is the class 319 and gonna get another on Friday Latest OO is the new hornby MK4s which perform so much better than the old MK4s. 91s not so much

The KWVR has a couple of Parlour Third Pullman carriages dating from the early 1930s - now named "Ann" and "Mary". Seen here behind "Royal Scot":



I have acquired a pair of old Wrenn models that are not a precise representation - one is a brake, for starters. However, I like the look of them:

Its Continental o'clock.

Considering its The International N Gauge Show there was a disappointingly small amount of "International" at TINGS this year. I did however make 2 purchases. When I do get a layout built I want it to look something like the Rhine Gorge and along there runs EC9, a DB/SBB joint service that runs with Swiss stock behind a DB loco from Hamburg - Basel before swapping for a Swiss loco onwards to Zurich. It is very famous for having a First Class Panoramawagen in formation. However in model form they are not an easy find.

The top 5 coaches are standard SBB EuroCity coaches from Rails but I didn't buy them to start with as without the Panoramawagen it just isn't EC9. But while digging around in a box of old continental stock I spotted a slightly damaged, wrong livery, split from a Minitrix set Panoramawagen for £7. Its missing a buffer (easy fix), a door window (easy fix) and the springs for the couplers (easy fix), its the livery that needs work. Luckily the modern SBB livery isn't too complex and I've been shining up my airbrush skills recently on plastic kits so once I find some decals that'll be a job for me.

That’s going to make a very nice train once its had a bit of TLC.

They were pretty decent models at the time. My stepbrother had one and the motor was really good in it.

To keep in theme with @TheEdge 's fine rake of SBB coaches, here are the beginnings of what I hope will become a substantial collection of contemporary Swiss N gauge stock.

At the front we have a Liliput Stadler FLIRT RABe 521 EMU of the Basel S-Bahn (purchased 2nd-hand from Hattons) and at the back a Hobbytrain SBB Cargo Am 843 diesel-hydraulic heavy shunter (purchased new from L'Atelier du Train) with some assorted SBB wagons. These wagons will have to be weathered to within an inch of their lives to look anything like the prototypes, but the loco + EMU will be kept relatively pristine.

I've been around model railways for much of my life - thanks to my dad - but this is the first time I'm really getting into the hobby myself, and I have to say I'm really impressed with the detail that is possible with modern N gauge models. My camerawork doesn't really do them justice, but compared to what I remember from my childhood, they are fantastically put together. Hopefully they perform as well as they look. Unfortunately, because I'm so early into my modelling journey, I don't even have any track to give them a good run on yet! But I hope to remedy this soon.

My new Bachmann 37 has finally arrived, after the retailer (Derails models) had to return it to Bachmann as it failed their "out of the box" test. Haven't had it on the rolling road yet but Derails did confirm that the issues they found seemed to have been fixed. As far as customer service goes, I would absolutely recommend this retailer, their communication has been second-to-none.

Edit: Don't know if I'm just being daft, but I can't seem to be able to get the wheels to turn... I'm a relative newcomer to DCC, do I need to release the brakes as per the DCC sound settings. It's listed on the functions sheet as "sound and function" but doesn't seem to affect anything other than the sound of air being released (oddly as function goes 'on' rather than 'off'').

Later edit: seems to be working now, though some of the sound functions seem to be off by one number compared to what's on the instructions.

Heljen Dogfish tend to be rather expensive, so I'm not sure whether the rake will be completed.

Another purchase - nothing to do with the KWVR, but with appeal to a Geordie such as myself:



I've even been allowed to display this model on a shelf in the living room!

I sold all of my Lima Sealion / Seacow fleet. only their couplings let them down, nothing else!
