Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but its not really anything to do with the railway now.

Basically I was in Cardiff the other week with a friend of mine, none of my friends are rail enthusiasts but they do ask questions when they need a hand!

My friend a resident of Cardiff pointed out this. and asked what it was.

I said it's something to do with Water for the steam engines, I assume.


I'm no expert on trains or the infrastructure, was I right in my assumption or completely wrong?

Its a water tower for refilling steam locos , and steam heat diesels, long since defunct , but now a listed building- rightly so.
