What's this box for?

I live close to the Blackburn-Hellifield line and when the track was upgraded 18 months ago a couple of these boxes were planted at the bottom of my garden. Ever since their implementation I seem to have had poor radio reception.
Does anyone know what they are and could they be the cause of the interference?

That looks like an electricity distribution box (the name on the front and the black cables going in are the giveaway) Whilst electrics can cause interference, I would be surprised if it caused significant radio disruption as I organise the maintenance of these units in certain buildings and the distribution boxes for them are MASSIVE.

I would expect to find a distribution board and circuit breakers in them. My advice would be to not stick your fingers in it.

Give that there is a block joint behind the box, I would say it is something track circuit related. Something like that won't utilise massive voltages I'd imagine.

Yikes! Thanks Bluenoxid for the prompt reply - not going down the bottom of the garden ever again, who knows what you may find there. The wife can do her own weeding in future!

It's a disconnection box for linking the duplicated tail cables at the feed end of the track circuit section identified as "CBE".

Yes, disconnection box. So the power in it is unlikely to be high in it. The wife is going to come back from weeding every time
