Go from Southall to Central London, somewhere near Goodge street tube station?

There are two routes I want to take, one with NR, one without NR.

Without NR option, do I really have to take bus to Ealing? Is it faster to take it to Hounslow or somewhere up north?

Also, is it true they say, you move 1 metres every 10 minutes on traffic at rush hour in London?

With NR it'd be train to Padd then cycle (if you're fastish) or Tube.

Without NR, private helicopter would be the fastest realistic option.

NR - to Paddington would take around 17/18mins, then get the tube onwards from there if you need to.

Yes, traffic is slow in Central London at rush hour, that is to be expected as everyone is trying to get somewhere!

EDIT: Sorry for looking like an idiot for not using TFL's planner, but I don't trust planners as you sometimes can go faster than what it says. Once, it said it would take 1 hour to make a journey, I took 15 minutes using completely different route.

How about Paddington to Queens park using the Bakerloo line, then London Overground from there to Euston?

The estimated time for a tube journey in the TFL Journey Planner is only so long so that minimum connection times are adhered to, otherwise I'm sure people will hold TFL liable when they miss their NR departure when there's service problems on the Tube!

Tube. Circle or H&C specifically, or Bakerloo and then Victoria. Or Central from Lancaster Gate to Tottenham Court Road, depending exactly where you're headed.

The TfL Journey Planner is more realistic although some would quite justifiably describe it as optimistic.

Okay, now I know the NR way.

Now, is there quick way to do it without NR but with tube? Is it better to go to Ealing, Hounslow, or somewhere up north of Southall?

Please take bus journey times while in rush hour into account.

And with TFL planner... No, I've even gone quicker than all minimum connection times combined.

If you want to avoid NR I'd suggest the 105 to Greenford and the Central Line to Tottenham Court Road. Then either the Northern line or walk to Goodge Street.

I'd expect it to be slower then NR to Paddington but not horrendous.

It does depend whereabouts in Southall you are heading from as well.
From the Town Hall the 607 "Express" is given around 20 minutes to Ealing Broadway in rush hour (half that early mornings) and then it's Central Line to TCR and Northern Line or walk as above. If you are east of Southall or near the Ealing Hospital then the 607 (even with the traffic) shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm with LexyBoy on the use of a bike!
Its fairly easy between Paddington and Kings Cross using the dedicated east-west cycle lanes running parallel to Marylebone Road/Euston Road but just a couple of blocks to the south.
I've often cycled from Ealing to Paddington, usually via Shephers Bush (which can be as fast as the Tube or bus and usualy faster) and in a rush I've gone flying down the Westway (with all large vehicles being overtaken in the peak), there's a little climb up to Notting Hill, but its all very easy. And quick.

Can I be nosey and ask why you specifically want to avoid NR? The reason I'm puzzled is that the most obvious answer would be to avoid the zone 1 Oyster premium for mixed mode journeys, but Southall to Paddington is charged on the TfL rate, so the premium doesn't apply.
