What's happening here? (TPE zero minutes for obvious connection)

I'm at an event in Leeds on 5th October and was looking to see if I could get back to Northallerton the same night.

There's a train to York at 2245 but at York this happens...

The train (9E21) arrives in Platform 3 at 2307, but then leaves for Newcastle (as 9T21) from Platform 5 for Newcastle at, erm, 2307.

Obviously, as a zero minutes connection, no app will sell tickets for it (they'll happily sell you tickets to York, and tickets from York, but nothing through York).

Monday to Friday 9E21 is a Liverpool-Newcastle train, and on a Sunday it is split like this but 9T21 leaves at 2312.

Any ideas why?

Train 9E21 arriving from platform 3 can not depart from platform 5 at the same time, it would be 2 different trains, so it does not depart as 9T21 as you believe.

The train arriving on platform 3 then shunts to Platform 2.

Engineering works:
05-10-2024
A mended TransPennine Express services on Saturday 5 October

Locations Affected:
TransPennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street / York and Newcastle, and between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield, and between Doncaster and Cleethorpes

Engineering work is taking place at various locations on the TransPennine Express network, closing some lines at various times throughout the day.

As a result:

The 07:19 York to Newcastle service will not run.
The 21:06 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will terminate at York. An additional train service will run from York at 23:07 to Newcastle. There is no connection between these two train services, if you are travelling between Liverpool and Newcastle you should travel on earlier train services to complete your journey.
The 21:22 Cleethorpes to Doncaster service will additionally call at Althorpe, Crowle and Thorne South.
The 23:13 Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield service will not run.
Check before you travel:

You can plan your journey using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner

Strange why they can’t run the service direct, and the unit that does the York - Newcastle stays at York.
Unless the Liverpool to York service is formed of a 185 due to engineering work?
Even then, bring the train from Liverpool in on plat 5 behind the Newcastle service so people can transfer.

Yes, well I can't travel on an earlier service as the event I'm attending doesn't finish until 10pm, so I'm going to drive instead, for the sake of 5 minutes to connect the two services. Well done TPE.

Thanks for the info btw.
