What's happening at Mobberley?

In the field behind the signal box at Mobberley a temporary roadway has been put in, and some stacked containers have been put in place. There are some civil engineering vehicles parked, including some from Carillion.

Is this anything to do with the railway? If so, what?

I've now found out. It's replacement of the crossing barriers and systems, which are life expired.

Really? There's an awful lot of prep work gone on in that field for such a short duration job, then; crushed gravel access road, parking area, fencing etc.

Been going on for a while, main commisioning next weekend, then carries on for few more weeks after.
26 k that field cost.

You have to provide welfare, canteen, meeting rooms and stores on every Network Rail job, thats why the overkill
