Does anybody know whats going on at Todmorden ?

I went through earlier today and there is a fair bit of hoarding next to the station building at platform level and part of the car park has been made into a compound.

Installing lifts

It's been going on since the early autumn. Apart from creating a bottleneck in the pedestrian entrance below the platform pictured above, the works spill onto the roadway outside, with a three-way set of temporary lights in operation. This has also taken out the usual bus stop used for rail-replacement buses, and a few weeks ago when the Copy Pit line was closed at weekends, we spotted a crowd of people waiting for the RRB on the main A646 in the town centre - right on top of a pelican crossing!

Does anybody know what the eventual plan is here? Platform 1 in the above picture is already accessible on the level via the car park entrance, it is the other platform (Leeds-bound) that currently has no access from the subway other than steps.

Hi... What's happening is they're building a lift for disabled access to the Manchester platform. They do have money for the access to the Burnley/Leeds platform. But a land owner is blocking access to the contractors.

As you say platform 1 is already accessible, but only via the very steep approach to the car park, so the plan is for a lift on both sides. Although platform 2 needs the lift sooner, as it’s currently only accessible via the stairs, I believe there’s a dispute over access with the owner of the land behind the platform so they’re doing 1 first

Thanks for the info. In fairness, for anyone needing step-free access to the ticket office on P1, it is a long trek via the car park especially if they then have to return that way to the subway to get to P2.

Hold that I might have spoken too soon!

Just been looking at the planning application and there doesn't appear to be anything about lifts.

"Accessible Inclusion for all improvement works to include replacement Help Points, way finding signage, replacement and painting of handrails, new shelter and modifications to footpath and kerb, new entrance barrier mats, installation of new posts and frames, replacement of platform and waiting room seating and reconfiguration and painting of existing shelters and associated works (Listed Building Consent"

I passed through last night for the first time this year - no obvious progress, approach road still with three-way temporary lights and a notice warning of an overnight road closure on (I think) 10th Feb.

Talking to the staff member, apparently there has been no work done for a while due to an issue with the contractor which has hopefully now been resolved. They said they had received conflicting reports as to whether the lift on the the Leeds platform was going ahead or not.

I used to live in Tod and was aware that lifts were planned (or at least one for Leeds-bound trains) but this is the first time I've seen any details. The town was always plagued by road works so here are some more!
