Caledonian Railway blue.
I'd have locos and matching rakes. So I'd have a maroon Warship and Western with matching Mk1s, Inter-city exec 37/4 and 47/8 with matching aircon Mk2s, NSE (white windows) 33 and 50 with matching ventilated Mk2s, and to finish an assortment of GW 4-6-0s and BR standards 4, 5 and 7. To go with them, Mk1s in blue/grey, choc/cream and crim/carm. Oh and a green Deltic, Hymek and Class 31/0 please. Not too much to ask is it?

I'd have a deep blue livery with the name of the railway along the side in gold lettering, basically a variant of the North Western Trains livery but without the stars

NSE (165s, 168/0s(fantasy), 50s with matching Mk.2s)

Well just to let you know its not a livery thats already been invented like br black. It has to be something you made yourself like 91107's.
Oh, ok then. I'd have white roof on locos and stock, the main body of the livery would be sky blue, I'd then have a thick red line sweeping up from the loco buffer beam to mid height, then back down to the other buffer beam. It would be branded 'Heritage lines' in white with a shadow under the text and a yellow horizontal dotted line above the text, which continues along the coaching stock. I'll Photoshop up something this afternoon/evening to show it.
Preservation railways shouldnt have there own liverys, I dont mind if they are sticking it on a coach.

Well, try saying that to the bluebell railway. Their Bluebell would be nothing without the livery.

Depends on what type of train it was...
If it was mk1 based summit old, if it was a sprinter etc it would be regional railways, but anything newer would have a modern style

If the objective is to represent the heritage experience then I suggest the livery/s of the erstwhile operator/s of the line. Also, if heritage is the theme, then I prefer credible combinations e.g. a steam loco with Britsih Railways maroon Mk1 coaches is fine but with intercity blue/grey Mk2s is probably not.
Now, if the question was "what heritage livery would I choose for a TOC today", the BR blue/grey is possibly the most appropriate (dynamic and affordable).
I used to travel that way quite regularly in the late nineties. Were a lot of old Mk 1's and 2's if I remember correctly. Are they still the same or have newer things replaced them?

If I would have preserved or owned any Southern Region or Great Eastern EMUs (Class 415s, Class 411s, Class 421s, Class 423s, Class 305s, Class 309s Class 302s!) I would have Network SouthEast livery painted on all of them (Phase 1 'Toothpaste') as it looks brilliant on all the units it was on.

How about one of the Lymington 3Cig units in its current livery? Oh, and no joke here. This is a serious idea.
Other than that, I'm thinking of something like a 302/310/312 in NSE livery. They're what I knew as a boy. Well, those and the squillion units that could be seen at Pig's Bay awaiting scrapping. I think I even saw a 43 there once (43173 was disposed of there after the Southall incident, which would match the time in which I lived that close to the site - a two-minute walk from the entrance!).
