What were the differences between the Gresley A1 and A3?

The trackwork preceded the resignalling and there was quite a bit of stagework to get to the final layout. It went on for months and months. The locals got really fed up with all the nocturnal and weekend noise, complaints were aired on TV and they even put anti railway posters up in their windows.

Meanwhile the OOC breakdown crew were coining it as going down towards Pad to pick up derailed engineers wagons or the odd tamper became a regular job. Even a new signal gantry had to be rescued one weekend when it bowed under the weight of signal equipment!

It wasn't one of the best thought out or executed remodelling jobs.

p.s. this is a long way from Gresley A3's!

Nice sunny day, dry rail. Not always like that.

Here's a pacific on the same stretch hauling 12 bogies over a wet rail at the weekend - 12/07/2015. (there's a bit of slip at about 2m 52s, but the driver gets it back under control quickly).
