That'd be one of the South West Trains Class 442s in as-built condition (although refurbished I believe?) - they were the only Mark 3s with compartments

The compartments are what confused me as I've never seen them before!

Definitely a 442...happy days of going down to Weymouth in first class (it used to be just £3 at weekend, if my memory serves me correctly...). :)

I think I might go on a trip now, the compartments do look very nice!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the 442's had their first major refurbishment with NSE, before SWT in the late 90's, wasn't the compartments removed, & the coach, or coaches, opened out?

As far as I know, the 442s retained compartments in first class (although there was also some open first class seating) right up until they were withdrawn in January 2007, and they may have even re-entered service with Southern/GatEx with compartments before being refurbished sometime more recently?

The 442s quite definitely retained their compos until the refurbishment by Gatwick Express, on their final day with SWT there was a staff tour during which 24 people fitted into a six seater compo.:D
