I'm not sure why this has come into my head, but it has.

Way back in about May/June 1990 my family and I went to stay with friends in Potten End, near Berkhamsted. Despite the fact I'd been travelling from Colne to Ilford to stay at my aunt's for 2 years prior to this, this was actually the first time I'd been "let loose" in London by myself.

I remember the journey back to Hemel for some reason, but what stock would it have been? I have 321's in my head but I'm sure they weren't built then. I also remember buying a burger and milkshake on Euston station but not from McDonald's or Burger King.

Any clues?

EMU wise, I would reckon it's quite possible you would have caught one of the second batch of the 321s, or possibly a 317 if there were any left on the WCML by that point? Certainly the second batch of 321s were built between 1989 and 1990, which displaced the already displaced 317s onto their third home on the WAGN areas.

321s were actually introduced from 1988 although I think initially it was probably on services out of Liverpool St. there were at least a couple of units loaned to the LMR for training and familiarisation purposes during 1989 so by the time you mention it could quite possibly have been a 321 you travelled on, if it was a slam door EMU then perhaps a 310.

So my theory that it was a 321 was probable then.

Casey Jones rings a bell but were there any others back then on Euston?

If it's any help, on 19th May 1990 I travelled from Milton Keynes to Euston on a service from Birmingham on board 321412. Then later returned from Euston to Coventry on a Birmingham service on 321424.
