What role?

Hey folks,

I'm now about to join the SRPS (awaiting an application form in the post) and am going to be volunteering at Bo'ness. My desired role there is to be a driver of the steam locos, but I'm fully aware that I won't get this role right away and likely have to build up to it. So, does anyone have any idea on just what role I may be offered?

Whilst I can't speak specifically for Bo'ness at most preserved railways the entry role is cleaner working up to fireman and eventually driver but be aware the process will take several years or more.

 

[Intermodal]

The railway I work at will allow you to start as cleaner but be aware some railways may make you do station work or similar first, it really depends on the railway. I believe someone here works at the Bo'ness so perhaps they will chime in.
