What Railway things do you collect?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if you guy's collect anything relating to the railways like timetables, signs, badges or any other gear? And what sort of stuff do you have?

My self, well I collect timetables, signs, badges, mostly Victorian related badges and what ever else I can get my hands on.

I have a large collection of all things mentioned and I sometimes down size by selling some of my collection on eBay or swapping with friends/other collectors.

I'll post a few pictures later on when I have more time.

I collect many railway related stuff,but mainly Network-SouthEast Stuff,i own the 1989 guide to traveling by train,Network card,the NSE logo off a class 50 (off the front),and my favorite of all,a Picture off chris green launching NSE with a class 50 in 1986.

i also got a few timetables including a few from intercity & regional railways

I used to collect the National Rail timetables, the one that details EVERY train service (My mum used to call it "the Bumper Fun Book" - Gawd knows why!). I did it for years, but my collection started to get out of hand, so I copied out some of the data onto squared paper and slung them out. Since the full timetable now appears on the net at...

...I now download the entire thing and stash it onto CD. I do have a small collection of OLD regional timetables (e.g. Scotland 1956, LMR 1963) which I bought from The Smokebox, next to Cromwell Street Bus Station in Kingston-on-Thames. Alas, it's not there any more, but I don't know if it closed down or relocated. Does anyone down there know?

I also collect train tickets, but just the cream and orange version (or ones that are the same size). I don't bother with these long ones (like the GNER ticktets) - dunno why - probably cos I'm nuts! I still walk around with 2batches of used Paris Metro Tickets, one batch in my wallet and the other batch in a plastic wallet I use for my bus pass.

I also collect Working Timetable Data, but that collection is tiny. Anyone out there help? As a poor substitute, I take timings of trains I go on, particularly long distance stuff.

I collect lots of things (far too many really ), but the main one has to be re-signalling notices. Basically they issued when there are any major re-signalling schemes or alterations, I have examples going right back to the 1930s; there is a fairly comprehensive list of notices issued on this site .

I also have a small collection of things like block instruments, bells and other bits and pieces, but can't afford to get too carried away (don't have the space to keep too many items either).

Hmm lets see, I save all my tickets, I collect various timetables and leaflets whilst I'm out and about, some books and DVDs, and I'm also quite partial to buying railwayana when it's available, such as WTTs, posters etc.

Basically, I just hoard whatever I can find!

Ditto! My family think I'm mad . It's just nice to look at them occasionally and remember where I've been. The fact that there are no barriers around here makes it easier to collect too. I've got a few posters too, and destination signs from inside trains (notably some old GNER ones).

I have all sorts of stuff.

An LNER Crossing Keepers bag that has not actually been out of service for very long, complete with Railtrack working instructions etc for the particular crossing.
Several bardic lamps, working and non working.
A BR guards bag complete with flags and other claptrap
A union badge from the 50s
A BR waterproof coat from the 50s
Various working timetables both recent and vintage
A 'Black Book' from 1960 or therabouts
Some relay room bakelite labels from a signalbox not that long ago decommissioned.

And a few other bits too.

Anything I come across at work really lol, uniform, got a bardic - needs some attention though, BR Master Key amongst the stuff I need for work, got an old drivers rule book, a EWS traction advice guide and a few other random things I'll probably never read. Not a patch on one of my colleagues collections mind

I have about 14 medium sized tubs full of railway stuff, divided into the following 'tub-categories' lol:

Bus things, timetables flyers etc
Tram things timetables flyers etc
Connex train timetables
V/line things, timetables flyers etc
Melbourne Suburban flyers etc
Interstate things
International things
Heritage stuff, just really old items and other bits and pieces.

And all my signs and other large items are kept in the garage much to my parents annoyance lol.

Would anyone be interested in exchanging timetables? I'm after London Tube and Bus timetables, flyers etc but from out here they are very hard to come by and if anyone wants Victorian timetables I'd be happy to send some over.

Mostly tickets, made a point of saving them all this year and not binning them after a while like I did last year. Although most of them this year have been lost somewhere, which is annoying. If I had all my tickets since 2004 my collection would be enormous!

Aside from that, I used to collect the NRTs, copies of entrain (from number 28), timetables during periods of validity (usually get binned after they run out) and destination cards. Finally added the PAD - TAU via FRO yesterday, although lots of them had to be binned a few years ago because of condensation ruining them. Working on re-building that collection now though

Did once also collect different anti-macassars, but stopped that yonks ago. Still got one off a 332 and another off a 450 somewhere, as well as a couple of old FGW ones, all lurking around in storage somewhere.

Also in the process of collecting HST DVDs. Although sadly my favourite, The Down Fishguard, is scratched like no tomorrow and barely plays now.

Got a good few copies of RAIL and a few other random issues of magazines, with about 6 of TR:UK. Stopped buying the magazines on a regular basis ages back though. Strongly considering getting rid of them though (even if just to a preserved railway somewhere if they wanted them), they take up a lot of space and are very heavy when moving!

Finally I have a few railway books, but the cost of these mount up very quickly! Considering shoving these on eBay too, but the only two I have here are Lost Lines in Wales and Two Miles A Minute.

So not a lot really, but enough to make it a pain to keep track of!

I do have a disk cleaner thing which i bought in wilkinson which not only cleans the disks but also removes straches. If i do remeber they were only about £4.50 to buy and i have found mine to be very useful.

I have a collection of tickets - although unplanned, it originated from me dumping the contents of my YPR wallet into a draw, and adding to it as time goes on. The result is a large stack of orange tickets.

My collection of tickets pretty much developed after I tried to plaster a wall with the few that I had, then friends and other people kept giving me theirs, so it wasn't long before I had thousands, although at that stage I never actually got to plaster a whole wall with ticekts. Now I could plaster all 4 walls and the ceiling haha.

Although our new electronic tagging system will put an end to the growing collection one day. Damn technology.

Pretty much the same for me too, except mine is somewhat less organised and can usually be found scattered around the room in random places
