What Rail Union to Join?

Hi all, I've just recently joined a T.O.C as a conductor and wanted to know what Union if any should I join? I was surprised no union reps came in to the induction so I thought I would ask you guys and gals!

The union that represents most of your colleagues, which Im guessing would be the RMT.

I definitely agree with you joining a union, especially as an insurance policy if anything goes wrong.

The RMT would be the "normal" choice.

That's the union I joined, not because I'm a fan of Bob Crow (far from it) but simply because that was the union the rest of my colleagues were in.

Although there is the TSSA and ASLEF. The TSSA is, I think, mainly for backroom staff (and also not meant to be that great) and ASLEF is more for drivers, although I know of a few conductors in ASLEF

RMT. Some hate them, some love them. I'm neither way.

When things went wrong and I took FirstGroup and their posh lawyer to court, they were there.

When I joined the railways I was told ASLEF was for Drivers, TSSA was for Booking Office staff and RMT was for everyone else regardless.

There are quite a few drivers in the RMT these days however ASLEF is known as the train drivers union.
