What printers?

Hi lads n lasses. What printer do you use and why?

I use an Epson D78 because I thought it was quite cheap to buy at the time and I wanted as good quality print outs as I could afford (for photographs).

HP Deskjet 5650 - its about 8 years old now but being an expensive printer to buy the ink is cheap (£20 for black and colour)

Though photo printing is best done in Bulk at Boots

Mine runs out of ink pretty quickly.

Hence why it's best to go to Boots for photo prints. 200 prints cost about £10 - photo printers tend to cost upto £1 per sheet!

I use an HP Deskjet F4280 because it was cheap to buy, the black and white ink isn't too bad (especially if you get it refilled, which I tend to do). I wouldn't have opted for it if I wasn't a student looking for a cheap way to print off black and white essays!

Despite the leaps forward in technology for the core computer which we all do our work on in the past ten years, why are home printers still rubbish and the source of many problems?

Bar the addition of screens and wireless functionality and the ability to print decent photographs if you have the right printer it still seems that the core aspect of home printers, for printing documents, is just as rubbish as it was in 1998 when I got my first printer!

Kodak printers. Cheap to buy, and cheap cartridges. Prints some very good pics as well.

Got a HP Officejet 4500 as its smaller and its better than my old HP Photosmart printer.

In the 3 years I've owned my printer I've probably spent 4x more on ink cartridges that I first did when I bought the printer itself. MIne is an Epson and the price for replacement brnad name cartridges is ridculous (only way they make money I assume - printers seem to be sold as a loss-leader). Found a good shop that does compatibles for £2 each - much better than Cartridge World.
