The 1967 Stock being scrapped - they still look so young, and with a bit of TLC could last for at least another 10 years I'm sure!

The fact that i never got to travel the many now defunct lines of Lincolnshire, such as the Mablethorpe loop, Louth to Bardney etc.

While i know times change and move on, one of the biggest things that make me sad are seeing old station buildings that have been bought by none enthusiasts, that are now falling down, or have been stripped of every noticable railway trait.

All the hard work that went into building all the railways, all those lives lost doing it. Such a shame.

Rising costs of Walk up Fares especially anytime fares, over £200 from the North West to London if you have to travel on peak trains & can't book in advance, it was under £100 for anytime travel when VT took over the franchise.

Short carriage Trains on routes like XC, which should have 8 or 9 carriage trains.

Rail staff at some Stations stopping enthusiasts taking Photos of Trains

Passing sidings or Depots like the former Allerton TMD, where the depot is derilict & closed, with the lines overgrown with vegitation.

just to make it a little better, i believe the 321's are now all allocated? after a fight between northern FCC and NXEA. All i know is northern didnt win, i think it was NXEA.

You're right , Wikipedia reckons FCC got them

Watching those YouTube clips of the Woodhead route - depressing to think most of the infrastructure has gone, an electrified railway too. With that, the relatively low percentage of electrified track in this country. Even in 2011 two major long-distance routes are not fully wired up - what on earth have the politicians been doing - we've had electricity for over a 100 years!

I think the sad thing was the eventual selling off of trackbed following the Beeching closures. I accept that some of the railways closed were unviable at the time and their closure was inevitable.
I can also accept that there wasn't a lot of point in leaving the track in position once a line had been permanently closed. But at least the routes should have been safeguarded.
I think that cycle routes are a good use for disused railway routes while there's no realistic hope of a rail revival. But even with cycle routes, there are gaps where the route has been sold off. And if some of those routes do ever return to rail use, there should be provision for a cycle-route / footpath to remain alongside (with suitable fencing, of course).

Also I regret that when they designed the replacements for the first-generation DMU's, most of them didn't have a glass partition between the cab and passenger accommodation, allowing passengers a view of the line ahead.

Completely agree with that. I'd also have loved to travel over the S&D, having been bought a few DVDs about it a few years ago. Looked fascinating!

My second thought is that I'd loved to have seen LPTB's 'Northern Heights' lines have become operational. I know there were good reasons for their being discontinued (WW2 and post-war changes) but I recently read Rails Through the Clay which revealed just how much infrastructure had been completed, only to never see a train again!
