At about 2110, a diesel loco departed platform 13 at Waterloo. I didn't get to the platform quickly enough and only saw a brief flash of the side of the loco in what looked like BR blue. I only saw the first carriage it was pushing, which was painted in creme.

It pulled out with a nice diesel roar and turbo whistle. :)

Any idea what it was?

If it was all-red then it was probably some 455s heading to Bournemouth from Wimbledon for maintenance.

It could have also been a class 460 ex-Gatwick unit doing a test run, as some of these units are living at Bournemouth depot at the moment.

Ex Gatwick Express 460s doing warm storage runs. Bournemouth - Basingstoke - Bournemouth. Apparently due to finnish soon, where the units will then move down to Chart Leacon for storage untill movement to Doncaster / Loughborough commences for (what i personnaly think unfortunatly) rebuilding / refurbishment. If anyones interested, the path has been 5Z60, although movemens do seem rather adhoc at the moment.:|

There's a video on Youtube if anyones interested.

Could have been a 458 returning from overhaul at Bournemouth, I believe one ran up from Bournemouth yesterday.

Nah, it was definitely creme, and the loco was in BR blue... Very surprised no one knows what it was!

@causton, that link doesn't work, at least on my phone.

Just out of curiosity, who would be driving the 460s on these test runs? Is it SWT drivers?

.

In the slightly duff light of the station, your eyes may have been fooled as to the exact colour?
