Is anyone able to elaborate what this service is likely to be please?

At first I thought it was a footex, but I can’t see any relevant games.

(Mods, it’s not possible to coherently reproduce the text from the link)

Most likely nothing. It's a charter path that is run as required

The link you shared shows it's in the schedules every Saturday. Following it back on RTT through the platform numbers, it leaves Kings Cross at 0815, arrives in Newcastle around 1230 and then sits in Tyne Yard for the afternoon.

As it's a Q Train (runs as required), perhaps it is a path for a footex - for whenever a London team plays away at Newcastle on a Saturday?

Its a Q Path, on the rare occasion when it does run its usually used for UK Railtours charters.

Yeah, looks like the natural progression of the post-electrification BR 'Merrymaker' path between King's Cross and Newcastle, that's been perpetuated by assorted railtour operators post-privatisation.
