If you ever get a chance to ride on the NMT do take the opportunity, I had the tour when I first joined the railway and it was very infomative

How long has the NMT been in service with NR now? :)

Also, how long was it's previous life as a normal passenger train?

Not sure about 43062, but locomotives 43014 and 43014 started life in the Eastern Region before becoming two of a total of eight rebuilt in 1987 for use as surrogate DVTs on the ECML. They remained in service until 1991 when the Mk.4s and DVTs arrived. After privatisation, they went to Virgin Cross Country, then Midland Mainline for Project Rio between Manchester and London St. Pancras. The NMT was built in 2003.

The New Measurement Train was introduced in 2003, with the power cars having been withdrawn from Virgin Crosscountry service in October of the previous year, after lives in passenger service of around 25 years.

The coaching stock has been converted from passenger stock at different times: For example the Conference Coach 975814 and Lecture Coach 975984 are former prototype HST vehicles 41000 and 40000 respectively and have been in departmental service since the 1980s, while other vehicles in the formation were converted from production mark 3 vehicles specifically for use in the NMT.

No they didn't, they were introduced on the Western Region as part of the first batch of HSTs for the GWML, as parts of sets 253006 and 253007 respectively. I also didn't think that they had anything to do with Project Rio (bar 43013 being hired from Network Rail to Midland Mainline for one day in 2003): By the time Project Rio was up and running, these two power cars were already in use with the NMT.

43062 was an East Coast power car originally however, as one power car of 254004.
