Based purely on anecdotal evidence and with no real statistical backup it does seem that we may be at a stage where there is less slack and spare capacity in both the freight and passenger fleets. This in turn has led to re-use of assets which might otherwise have gone to the scrapyard. Allied to some economic changes such as exporting locomotive to Europe and the price of scrap metal over the last decade or so there does appear to be little left to cut up.
So what is left for the scrappie? Anything?
