What is 158 806 doing up North?

Got into Huddersfield today to find 158806 in full South West Trains livery, complete with refurbished interior, operating the Northern service to Leeds via Dewsbury. I then saw it later from the bus home heading towards Halifax from the Bradford direction. Its livery really makes a bright and refreshing change from the constant dark blue of Northern and TPE livery. Does anyone know what it's up to?

I will be the best 158 Northern owns! They been refurbished VERY nicely, although I do think the backs of the seats are a wee bit too high!

158 806 is a former TransPennine refurbished EMT unit?

158 888 is a former TransPennine refurbished SWT unit (a better quality refurb, generally) which is presently on loan to Northern, and in trainbaby tradition has been named 'Bingo'. I had it last Saturday, and whilst decomissioned first class was great, it had either had a long hard day or Northern aren't looking after it to well. The prior is probably true though.

It is actually in the East Midlands Trains version of the Stagecoach livery

Can only of gone on loan today as it was working on an EMT Norwich - Liverpool service yesterday.

158888 is on a combination of Manchester Victoria to Leeds and Leeds to Huddersfield services today, so I'm guessing the OP read the number wrongly and made an incorrect assumption.

As stated 158806 is in East Midlands Trains livery which is different to South West Trains livery but using the same colours. If Northern had got a different unit it would be have been reported on the Northern Railway's forum and this hasn't been.

I read the coach numbers on the sides, which ended in 806, so I may be mistaken if the unit has been renumbered.

158888 (SWT) is on hire to Northern for 3 months.

Odd as 158888 is formed of 52802 & 57802 ex 158802. 158806 is the only one that has coaches that end in 806.

I was on 888 last week when it was on the Blackpool to York run. I have to say that the unit was very impressive - a wonderful interior. Such a shame that Northern cant refurbish their units to that standard.

For a 20 year old vehicle to sound as smooth as that and for everything to work as it should is impressive.

Was surprised though, given that it has working air-con, that the hopper windows were still fitted.

I presume they're still there in the event of air-con failure. Wasn't there an incident in the last couple of years where due to overhead line problems a 91+mk4 set failed on a stifling hot day, and the temperature reached such high levels within the train that several windows were smashed by passengers?

Theres not really any need for this tone either. I never said I was 'so special' or that you should remember my name, I just find it rather cold and formal when i'm referred to as 'the OP' only a few posts into a thread. Vulcan or Dave would be fine thanks.

Its not exactly the best 158 in the fleet, infact if EMT only had 2 158s it wouldnt be the best 158 in the fleet
