i am on a night shift and my work is next to the Cambridge-Ipswich line. now i usually can see the line but the fog obscured my view of what sounded like a 66 but it was hauling a long train with intermittent bright lights maybe 2 or four per wagon it stopped at the Fulbourn level crossing then there was loads of loud banging and a loud fan noise the the 66? seemed to move off and leave these wagons for around 10-15 mins then i herd the 66?come back and then the whole train left Any ideas or info would be very welcome

Stoneblowers and rail grinders are self propelled, you wouldn't see them hauled if they were working.

Long engineering train with bright lights, could be autoballasters or long welded rail train. Sounds like it could be a rail drop, were the wagons moving at all during the noisy bits?
