during my years as a callow youth I was a member of the Leicester TOPS office (around 1988). Whilst there i was able to witness BR in all its glory. However i have since emigrated to S.Africa and I was wondering what might have happened to some of the traffic flows that use to come under our command. I am thinking specifically of the Petliners from Melton Mowbray - what happened to these flows which were very efficient and well run. Also Forders sidings - is there any use for these now and did London Brick ever come back to rail as they should have done. Also what happened to wagon load traffic has anybody ever investigated setting up a wagonload network possibly with govt support in these greener times. seems railfreight is somewhat neglected. Also EWS announced a load of new inernational servies via the Channel Tunnel last year did any ever start (Duisburg was mentioned). How much traffic is now using the Chunnel and any sign of new flows?
