What Happened Yesterday!

Yesterday I got a Cheshire day ranger. I had explored all over the manchester area and caught the train to crewe. I happily got off the train to then realise that all services back to lime street had been cancelled :-x. I had to get back to Halewood via Warrington as a result. Someone told me that there was a fire at Runcorn. Was this the case? Does anyone have more info? I have complained to London midland and I'm hoping for some sort of compensation (vouchers,discount).

It's possible, but not likely. You still travelled, but not on a different route. If you can prove the route you took was longer, you might be able to get something.

The route I took definitely took longer as the Virgin trains service that called at Warrington bank quay was 15 mins late. Then I had to walk from BQ to central. I was then delayed more as the 17:14 northern to halewood arrived at 17:32 :roll:. The train from crewe to South Parkway usually only takes 30 mins. Definitely took me longer.

The 350's are good but London Midland aren't (a mon avis).

ah i see, cant really comment only been longbridge to university (once for open day) and crewe liverpool thus i have no opinion of the operator but i like 350's

The only thing that I think you will get out of London Midland is compensation via the Delay Repay scheme if your journey was delayed by 30 minutes or more. You can either do it on-line via the above link or pick up a form at one of their stations (it does come with a pre-paid envelope) though do be aware that you will need exact times of your intended and actual trains and I am quite sure that they do check these!

IIRC, you get 50% of your fare back for 30 to 59 minutes of delay or 100% if the delay was over 60 minutes though I am not sure what you will get for being on a rover ticket. The only experience I have had of claiming has been with ordinary tickets or a season ticket, which attracts a pro-rata amount according to the length of time it is valid / how much you paid for it.

The compensation comes by way of vouchers BTW.
