My girlfriend, even when she's in a strop,
Our cats, even when they try to nick my cake,
Driving trains,
Stopping my train in exactly the right spot - very satisfying,
Waking up at the start of a long weekend off,
Nostalgia,
Rediscovering old favourites ie: films, music and classic TV shows,
Driving my old Cooper S down country lanes,
Driving my old Rover P6 at night in the rain when a great tune comes on the (MW) radio,
Drinking tea,
Proper beer,
Deja vu,
Looking at old family photos,
London's streets at four in the morning,
The very idea of the GWR and the images it conjures up and my family connections to it,
Beans on toast,
Curvy women,
Drinking more tea.

;)

You ever done it? I drove from London to Sydney in 2007?

Well not me personally ... it was an organised expedition. I want to do London to Cape Town next, but in my own 4x4.

The only way to see the world properly in my opinion :D

Always been a landrover owner. I have two a defender and a 300tdi disco. Do lots of green laneing etc, and ive toured scotland numerous times with it, and wales. I'd love to do it abroad, but can never get the time off from work!! lol, i so envy you right now!! :D

Awesome! I don't know much about 4x4's really, but learning will be all part of the project. I'm thinking of getting a Nissan Patrol GTR. Thinking of taking it to see the Northern Lights in Norway as a bit of a road trip when I get one :D

I agree it's hard to get time off work. I had to sell my house and get a years sabatical from work to do it

Gotta wait for the housing market to pick up again so I can sell this house too!! That could be twenty years away at this rate :lol:

I've got quite a long list for this one...

My family and friends (even though they're all mad!)
My cat
Travelling, by train, bus, boat or plane!
London Underground, and the city it serves
Jaguar cars
The original Mini - car I was brought up with!
My home city - Lincoln
Red Wine
Cheese, and lots of it!
Greek food
The Provence region in France
Classic comedy - particularly Monty Python.
More worryingly, US sitcom Friends.
The works of Douglas Adams
Zooey Deschanel ;)
Jennifer Aniston

Most of all, that I'm able to enjoy life as I want to, with people I care about!

  • Things that are big, fast and powerful, if they have hulls, wings or steel wheels
  • Especially if they have Valenta diesel engines
  • Or Olympus turbojets
  • Or run on steam if they travel by land
  • Or have sails if they travel by water
  • Any sort of optical instrument
  • Especially if it fits an old Minolta SLR
  • Wildlife
  • Especially with a clear field of view and good light
  • Birds of Prey in particular, a real challenge to get close to
  • Wild, undisturbed places
  • Cricket
  • A good cup of tea
  • Real ale (although I'm not allowed any more) :(
  • A strong, steady breeze with no gusts
  • A clear night
  • The company of attractive, young women
  • One in particular, although she's marrying someone else
  • Silence (a rare thing)

Crikey, I must have missed The Hate Thread. Sounds like a perfect one for when I'm having a bad day! Anyway, things I love? I'll leave motive power and music preferences out of this, as that can be a tad fluid with me, so then:

Bashing, to the point I'm addicted and need a regular fix!
Photography (although I'm still learning stuff)
Videography (again, learning stuff)
The Dynasty Warriors series by Koei on PS1, PS2 and PS3
My family
Chilling out
Dr Pepper
Fanta Fruit Twist
Guiness (although it's bad for me :()
Various real ales (again, bad for me and technically not allowed that either :()
Chocolate
Family Guy
American Dad!
Futurama
Frasier
Travel in general
The take-off on an aeroplane, specifically the getting-pushed-into-your-seat feeling
Coffee
Fish (either cod or haddock, although I also don't mind plaice) and chips
Branston baked beans
Peanut M&Ms
When something goes well and to plan
Being happy
Pay day
Relaxing in a nice and hot bath
Revitalising with a nice and hot shower

I know there's other stuff, but I'm stretching the grey matter a bit with this list at the moment. As for leaving music out, I can't help but mention my current crazy love of Aqua - Cartoon Heroes (I also like Aqua's Dr Jones):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_LPJllaogU

I've got other embarassing passing fads when it comes to music. Such as when I couldn't stop playing various stuff by Steps last year, I went crazy on that for a few weeks. Such is the variety of music I enjoy that, in one part of my MP3 player I have Disturbed followed by My Chemical Romance, followed by Dragonforce then Linkin Park!

Motive power preferences? OK I will mention that, as I write this, I do enjoy 150s and 37s. I also have occasional flings with 67s, but I do enjoy 319s (preferably running on AC power) and for some reason 458s. Other stuff I have occasional flings with, although I can't even flail an HST these days!

The Peak Classes of British Rail (Classes 44 & 45 only not the class 47 in a class 45 bodyshell).

Grinds teeth in dismay.... <(

The Generator 47s are 46s with not enough wheels. Ergo, they are inferior.

Peaks are Peaks. Yes, I know about the internal gubbins etc., but they preceded the Duffs. In fact, there are fewer Peaks because they needed a lighter type 4 so the electricals got stuffed into the Gennies when Brush and BR put the 47 concept together, cancelling the last 20 in the 46 build programme in the process.

46s are not 'Noseduffs'. 46s are Hell. Quite simple, really.

Can you tell I love 'em? ;)

Railways, real and model

Oh yes - might not have put model railways in my earlier list. My new N gauge class 14 is a beast!

I'd like to add another one to my previous list... the full eight minute version of The Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again', heard it on the car radio last night on the way home from a crappy shift and it just lifted me up no end. Utterly sublime, the perfect rock record and no mistake 8-)
