It makes summer really something to be endured, rather than enjoyed. It's pure torture some days.

If there's space for someone to undertake, you're the one in the wrong lane.

Nope. Not always the case.
If im in the fast lane overtaking vehicles in the middle lane, sometimes vehicles wanting to speed will try and find a gap (between the cars im overtaking) and undertake me (afterall, im hardly going to go back into the middle lane if there is another vehicle ahead which i will be overtaking in 30secs, as that could delay me needlessly). Trust me, half the time i have my dad in the car, and if i was staying in the fast lane needlessly, he would say something. So unfortunately your point isnt always the case.
Stupid and dangerous, and often leaves them cutting me up once they have completed their idiotic maneouvre. So I usually ensure they cant complete it. By speeding up once they are level with me!! All because they dont like obeying the law! Tut tut.

The other one are cars that come right up behind you whilst you are overtaking, and start flashing their lights at you. Eh, i can hardly move out the way when i am in the middle of overtaking. Then once you move in and they pass, they look at you and give you abusive gestures.

Hmmmm. If you have cars coming up behind faster than you and you aren't overtaking for 30 seconds then the correct way to go would be to pull back in.

However yes when you are doing 80+ then I'd take the view that they can wait.

No. What you're doing there is lane hogging. 30 seconds is plenty of time to let someone pass.
Whilst not in the process of overtaking another car - which you're not - you shouldn't be in that lane. Simple.
If someone has to resort to undertaking to get past, then that should really be a message to you that you're in the wrong lane. If the space is there for them to do that, then you are in the wrong lane, and are the one causing the problems.

A lot of the problems on the motorway are caused by people who won't adhere to the simple way it works because they feel their journey is more important than everyone elses and as such decide that they have priority and don't need to pull over to let others pass.

Tell me, how would you feel if one of these people you're overtaking pulled out in front of you and wouldn't pull over to let you pass? Would you happily sit behind them until they moved whilst they "delayed you needlessly"?

(afterall, im hardly going to go back into the middle lane if there is another vehicle ahead which i will be overtaking in 30secs, as that could delay me needlessly).
Ah, I see. It's fine for you to delay others needlessly, but not for anyone else to delay you.

The last sentence of his post implies that he's not doing 80+, but regardless, should have pulled in.

You all sound like experienced bad drivers to me; far more interested in making judgements about other drivers and exacting your own revenge on them.

Does it never occur to you that all this is going on inside a tin box which is covering around 30 metres every second?

I don't feel a need for 'revenge'.
I get a bit irritated by lane hoggers on the motorway but will keep my distance and wait for them to move over, I'm not going to risk doing anything stupid.

Errr, Smethwick!
Which one's that then? I though all motorway lanes had the same speed limit.

Well said. The Highway Code refers to driving in the left lane as the norm, using the others for overtaking only.

Anyway, another hate (not dissimilar to your own 'could have' reminder): The inability of BBC reporters and newsreaders to identify correctly singular and plural entities.
For example: "The Government IS to announce ITS decision" (not "The Government are to announce their decision"); or "The company SAYS IT will reveal ITS proposals" (not "Bloggs Ltd say they will reveal their proposals").

When others have to put everybodies lives at risk by undetaking in the smallest possible gap, then that is a hint that there is not space to undertake, and thus i was not in the wrong lane. Accept that it is possible i am talking sense. 30secs is an estimate, but often its less than that.

Tell me, how would you feel if one of these people you're overtaking pulled out in front of you and wouldn't pull over to let you pass? Would you happily sit behind them until they moved whilst they "delayed you needlessly"?

You havent mentioned what speed this vehicle is doing? Lets assume he is going 70 though. Of course I have no problem with it. Afterall, they arent slowing me down. If they are going slower, then as long as they are overtaking.

Ah, I see. It's fine for you to delay others needlessly, but not for anyone else to delay you.

1- Im not delaying them. Infact, when im in the 'right' hand lane, I always go slightly over 70 to ensure i dont delay anybody. If they want to go faster, thats there problem, but im not delaying them because they shouldnt be going faster. Anyway, as mentioned, im allowed to be in that lane because of overtaking.
2- If i kept pulling in and out into the smallest gaps just to let speeders past me, then nobody else would be delaying me. Id be delaying myself by doing it. So never have i said nobody else is allowed to delay me.

The last sentence of his post implies that he's not doing 80+, but regardless, should have pulled in.

Wrong. If i should have pulled in, then i would have pulled in. You have not been in the car with me, so you cannot say what you have just said.

Also, have you thought about the distance that drivers are meant to leave on the motorway? For me to move back into the middle lane, there has to be at least 3 or 4 times this amount between the cars to make it worthwhile. I need to leave at least 1 times this distance before i pull over in front of the car i have overtaken (otherwise i have cut him up and he needs to brake), and i need to have at least 1 times this distance to the next car im overtaking. Then i need another 1 or 2 times this distance to actually make it worthwhile to move back over.
All this adds up, and if the difference in speed between myself and the other cars is not a lot, then it often equates to around 30secs quite easily. So, 30secs is not too much.
If there is a reasonable distance then i will move over. I always do. But if there is not a reasonable distance, then i will not move over. It is stupid to do so.
Just accept that it is possible to be undertaken and to not be in the wrong lane. You seem to be thinking the cars undertaking me have all the time in the world to do it. But they dont. They only just manage it, and are putting peoples lives at risk by doing so.

If my 'backseat driver' dad doesnt bat an eyelid, then i am obviously not in the wrong. He picks me up if i move over 5secs too late, so for him not to say anything on these occasions only says one thing. I am in the right.

All this talk of odd-couple fillings has me craving a jam and cheese sandwich right now..

I was perplexed when I first heard about it, but after trying it I'm hooked!

Wrong. If i should have pulled in, then i would have pulled in. You have not been in the car with me, so you cannot say what you have just said.

I'm not getting into a full blown argument over this, as I have things to do.

I will just point out one thing

So I usually ensure they cant complete it. By speeding up once they are level with me!! All because they dont like obeying the law! Tut tut.
You're breaking the law by speeding to block someone and prove a point.
If anything, doing that is worse than undertaking, IMO.

People who undertake on the motorway!! To such an extent i will usually speed up just to annoy them!!

Whats wrong with a bit of manure in the caravan? Horses deserve some comfort as well!

Sorry to jump in here, but if people are undertaking, then you must be doing something wrong in your lane, ie not travelling at 70, or else change lane.

The motorway is not Silverstone, and your cavalier response just endangers everyone else!

A few more to add to my list...

Cheryl Cole - So you're getting back with Ashley? Any tiny bit of respect I may have still had for you has flew completley out the window.
Apple Mac, Ipod, Iphone, Ipad... Well, anything to do with Apple for that matter.
Cheryl Cole - Listen love, its all going to end in tears. Like it did the last two times!
News of the World and The Daily Mail
Emmadale, Eastenders, Corrination Street etc - How can people watch that rubish?
The guy who comes speeding past you on a single carrigeway whilst you're doing dead-on the speed limit - I'm sorry mate, was I holding you up from breaking the land speed record?
Cheryl Cole - So a diamond ring is going to make it all better? Listen, where was he all them times you needed him? Thats right, out 'getting cosy' with some hairdressing tart. What and you want to have kids with this bloke?
That little chav on his 0.1cc moped who feels he just has to rev it up when he rides past people - Just stop it alright, it ain't impressing us the fact that your little milk-float motor can make a noise
The little chav on his bicycle thats 5 sizes to small for him that feels that he has to pull a wheely when he rides near people - You don't look cool. In fact, you look an idiot.
Just chavs in general - Walking around in there Addidas jackets and burbury caps thinking they own the place. And why do they feel they have to walk around with there hands down there trousers? Do they think it makes them look good? It's discusting.

Oh, and did I mention Cherl Cole?

Thinking about it, I'm quite a grumpy person!

I like the News of the World, because they've finally managed to expose the foulness of modern journalism, and hopefully people will take notice.

Thankfully this Sunday's will be there last.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14070733

They will surely go on my hate list when I can be bothered to come up with it. Didn't take much notice of it all at first when it was celebrities because I just looked at it as the usual celebs having a whinge about privacy et al. But having read the allegations over the last few days I have to say I am shocked at what they have done.

Those 2-stroke motorbikes are just as bad. We had six of them come through Graveley in formation at 03:00 last night. :-x

Pull up alongside them on a proper bicycle, shift into the right gear and make them eat the dust from your rear wheel. Kids' toys don't impress anyone except other kids.
