What do you bash?

A lot of people (well, on here) tick off locos and units and do track bashing. Others are in the process of bagging stations. I've seen one member who's ticking off Wetherspoons pubs and there are football groundhoppers 'doing the 92' or non-league grounds.

Doing this sort of thing requires record-keeping of some sort - so what do you bash or keep a log of (rail-related or otherwise) in your life - and where do you draw the line? :)

Track. I keep a note of all journeys, and a bit more in depth for tours. I have of late though began to make note of what platforms or crossover a train takes, instead of just doing it at the time and forgetting it, dunno the long term repercussions of that however!

I don't really do it for anything else, I've been to a fair few football grounds but I don't bash them or anything like that. I'd actually say going to away football matches at the likes of Crystal Palace, Woking, York City and St James' Park (the Geordie one) is a key factor of what got me into travelling.

Edit - I also take note of the mileage and coverage from the above trips.

I keep track of the journeys I make by rail, the stock used (but not specific numbers) and cost. I also have a map of my route coverage that I keep up to date.

Locos, units and light rail - but not London Underground stuff (apart from the ex BR Waterloo & City Units, and bizarrely I've also started recording what new 'S' stock units I have for haulage). For LU I'll log the journey though for my mileage records, and I'll also make a note of any narrow gauge/miniature too, although I don't keep a list (yet!) of what of these I've been on. I'll also make a note of any rail replacement buses or taxis! I've got detailed notes on all my loco mileages, one day I may get round to doing similar for units.

Track is down to Baker level, I do have Quail books for reference but have never gone (or intend to go) down the road of marking off in it. For abroad, I tend to use the Ball European Railway Atlas, although it isn't really as detailed as I would like it to be.

I don't do Wetherspoons or anything like that (although if one was mentioned, I'd probably have a good idea if I'd done it). I did attempt to make a list of music bands/singers I'd seen once for a thread on here, which I've still got.

I know of others who do things like record arrival/stopping times for moves (even down to the 1/4 minute in one case), which carriage they travel in, car journeys, buses bashed, the list goes on....

I basically record what you can see when you click my signature. All in one heavy, rapidly growing spreadsheet with one hell of a lot of useless graphs and long redundant formulas! I also keep paper records of units travelled on and locos seen. I don't keep any record of track covered but I could easily say whether I'd travelled on a certain line.

I like to do numbers and track. I log what lines I go on but don't log the units, just see if it's been ticked in my book or not. I did once fantasize about visiting football stadiums when I was older as I have been to quite a lot of football stadiums, but I've come off of that now really.

Just talking about football and in a mood where I want to be boastful about my achievements which nobody cares about, I've seen every single football club in the prem play, not at their individual stadiums, but when I was a season ticket holder at the mighty Blackpool F.C, also went to Wembley to see them ages ago. Boasting done for the day :D

I do bash track, but I'm not obsessive about it, funds just don't allow for that unfortunately :(

I was keeping a spreadsheet of all my haulage from 2012, but it just got a bit too much for me!

Track to Baker level, locos, units, light rail (W&C only for LU). I have lists of all the locos I've had (including the first move on them) and a highlighted list of units in Excel plus Railmiles for logging moves.

Track but only each line, not in both directions and record this on various maps; including whole GB map and individual TOC maps.

Also trying to travel on each class of train but not yearly.

Aim to keep a mental note of what lines I've done.

As for stock: Aim for HSTs and other loco-hauled, with a soft spot for Pacers and 158/9s. Whatever it is, it all goes down with details of the working it was on and the mileage I had off it and of course whether it was a new one for me or not. Not particularly fussed about individual bits of track, but it is relatively interesting going into an unexpected platform or whatever (at the time, it doesn't get recorded.)

No records with regards to LUL, although I did work out once which bits of lines I'd done (or not, as the case may be). Think I may also record DLR units, but a good few years since I've been on one.

For me it is photography - locos, multiple units and DVTs, only counting if I can get a usable shot of them - trying to complete whole classes as best I can, although generally only by chance and persistence (I will usually take a camera with me when commuting and keep an eye open for specific units or take a few dedicated all day spotting trips a year). I mark them off in a Platform 5 spotting book.

Never been particularly concerned with trackage or specific haulage, if only because I have never kept a log of them before and can't be bothered to start one now!

Outside of railways I am a rather hardcore motorsports fan, travelling the length and breadth of the country to attend events from F1 and MotoGP to RallyCross and club meets - see my Motorsport Flickr pages for more!

Bash loco's units etc. Not bothered about steam but pencil them in. Also have a spreadsheet, try and clear locos for a 1000, and units for 100 apart from the EMT stuff as ive had a lot of journeys off them... I do also do beers (if that counts) not onto Spoons yet lol also do football grounds, watching Boston and FCUM has met that i have been to a fair few over the years.

I'm an oddball, I bash gatelines and entrances and exits to stations, try to use all of those on the stations I pass through or go to.

These days it's routes and photography of rolling stock and infrastructure, you adapt to the times, simple as

I bash many forms of transport and their associated infrastructure (although I'm not terribly interested in heritage lines/stock, except trams), but I only really keep a log of aircraft and vessels. I do of course bash rolling stock and stations, not just in the UK if I can afford it.

UK: All haulages, track to Baker level ( plus if I get a rare crossover all the better ), photographing everything as well. Overseas: All haulages and track plus any photos I can get. Also note down any aircraft I go on.

Have also got the haulage ( "sailage"??? ) of the QE2, complete with a cab ride ( "bridge ride"??? ) of same. :)

What do I bash? Simple answer track but only to "Baker" or equivalent level in the rest of Europe, can't be bothered with sidings, loops, crossovers etc. Also locos of any type though I am only interested in accruing mileage behind certain classes or individual locos, otherwise if I've had it once that is quite enough.

As for units, I write them down but there is no way I will chase anything that I haven't had and, unlike locos, I couldn't say (nor care about) which ones I still need (or, as "theblackwatch" would have it, I don't "need" any of them )

I also write down planes I have been on and airports used but will also not put myself out to try and do any new ones (bit difficult with the planes themselves!). The only other thing I could almost be said to "bash" is Accor Hotels (mostly the Ibis brand) but only because that is what we tend to stay in when away. Again, location is everything so we won't go to a new one for the sake of it when one of the old favourites is much handier.

Haulage - I make a note of all motive power I have for haulage (including industrial, light rail, London Underground, narrow gauge).

Track - up to 'Baker' level, although I do have Quail atlases, and have been on several BLS trips recently (mainly to preserved railways).
