What could realistically replace Southern Class 313s?

I've seen a lot of speculation about southern's class 313s but no dedicated thread for speculation of their replacement. Discuss below what you think will happen to these units in the future. I think that a likely scenario is for gtr to have an internal rolling stock shuffle and displace most 377s to the south coast as they were before the 313s were introduced.

It's most likely to be Electrostars of some variant - however these need to come from somewhere.

Taking them from GN would mean needing to replace those - the 379s have been touted but nothing has happened yet.

Some could come from timetable changes on the Southern network along with reductions in formation lengths.

As ever, we'll have to wait and see - it's unlikely to be brand new stock, so it'll have to be from a reshuffle elsewhere.

If commuting stays down, this is the likely answer, just like has happened (temporarily) with the SWR 456s.

The reality is probably a "bit of both" - there are ~20 x 313s with Southern at the moment. Whilst a 1 for 1 replacement possibly won't be needed e.g. spares etc, that's possibly more than could be freed up from simple re-allocation of duties.

Having been on a GN 313 yesterday and seen only two 717s in the sidings, I was also surprised to find they still run in the south coast and they are over 40 year old. How is this? Aren't Southern going to replace them? It's completely egregious they keep them given the glut of 350s, 360s, 379s...
