What constitutes as the service before a cancelled train? (Avanti)

My Birmingham to Glasgow service 1707 has been cancelled. Avanti state you can use the service before or after this. Would the 1507 direct to Glasgow constitute as the service before. Or will it be the 1634 Birmingham to Glasgow with change at Preston/Carlisle considering its not a service to Glasgow.
Also where is the best place to get this advise from staff at New Street. I don't see any information/help desks on station maps.

You could take either - both are reasonable - assuming the services with a change are both Avanti services.
Also where is the best place to get this advise from staff at New Street. I don't see any information/help desks on station maps
The ticket office is the best place for this.
