What class DMU is this?

I think that this would have been a class 101.
DMU: 51392+51384+51367+59484 (L205)

Can anyone confirm or let me know what it is if I am wrong?

Numbers look out of order as well - 59484 is an intermediate trailer (a TCL), so can't be at the outer end of a set.

The L205 set number does appear to be associated with 101 sets though

Depends on the date when it was taken. I've seen pictures of some Scottish sets from the mid-1980s where nominally it was a 107 set but had mostly 101 vehicles in it. In fact I think on one end the number was 1013XX and on the other 1073XX with the set numbers matching! It was an era of find what could run and couple them up.

It should have been (if fully formed) L400 and L205. 51367 and 54385 were L205 about that time, the other three vehicles being L400.

Don't know about other Regions, but on the Scottish Region the set number stayed with the DMBS vehicle normally.

I can't find the picture on the Railcar website now. It's possible it was a double DMBS set then.

Railway Observer August 1991 lists the Reading DMU formations. These 4 cars all come from different sets.

51367 L205
59484 L400
51384 L407
51392 L414

Towards the end mixed sets were very common, but I'm not sure they were that mixed... I wonder if some of the numbers weren't written down properly, because with only very small changes we get the full set of L400:

51332 + 59484 + 51374 - listed thus in both the 1991 and 1992 combined volumes.

L205 is indeed listed in the 1992 book as 51367 + 54385, as @Clarence Yard mentioned.
